Premier League predictions for Sunderland vs Liverpool

My Sunderland vs Liverpool best bet: Tie/Liverpool — Halftime/Fulltime (+400 at Sports Interaction)

No team in the Premier League has a more obvious difference in performance between home and away games than Sunderland. They rank fourth in home record, yet sit 17th in the league on the road.

The fearsome Sunderland crowd plays a huge part in that, and those supporters will be loud and proud ahead of the visit of the reigning champions.

This year’s Liverpool team also have an incredibly varied split between how they perform in the first half of games vs. the second.

Liverpool have struggled immensely in away first halves, winning just once at the interval in 12 road games (17th). They’ve scored just three times in the first 45 minutes of those road games.

Conversely, they rank fifth in the second half of away games, having scored 16 goals, tied for the most in the Premier League.

Sunderland have seen just 11 goals (seven scored, four conceded) in the 12 first halves they’ve had at Stadium of Light this season, with their games becoming far more open in the second halves, in which 19 goals have been scored.

Given these trends, let's take a 1H draw coupled with a Liverpool 2H win at +400.

Tie/Liverpool – Halftime/Fulltime

Liverpool Under 0.5 1H

Reinildo Mandava 2+ fouls committed

This is a Liverpool team who’ve scored just three times in 540 1H minutes away from home. Sunderland are averaging 0.33 goals conceded per 1H at home.

Sunderland’s Reinildo Mandava has committed a foul in nine straight Premier League home starts. He’s averaged 1.61 fouls per 90 minutes played this season, but with the quality of Liverpool, and a one-on-one matchup with Mohamed Salah, expect two or more fouls.
