The Premier League’s big derby games are usually kept for the weekends, but this Tuesday we have a treat with Liverpool welcoming Manchester United to Anfield. These two teams hate each other as much as any in the Prem, but there isn’t much comparison at the moment on the pitch.
There’s nothing Man Utd fans would like more than ruining Liverpool’s Premier League title hopes, even if it did hand the title to cross-city rivals Man City. Can Ralf Rangnick’s troops upset Jurgen Klopp’s title charge? Don’t miss our Liverpool vs. Manchester United betting picks and predictions to find out.

Side analysis
Usually, when one of the Premier League’s biggest derbies comes, it’s televised on the weekends. It may be down to Liverpool’s fixture congestion but the fact Liverpool vs. Man United is being played on a Tuesday feels indicative of the fall from grace that United have had.
The incredible 2-2 draw that Liverpool had with Man City is still fresh in the memory and that performance shows just how far superior those two clubs are currently.
The chance to put a nail in the coffin of Liverpool’s Premier League title bid is a tantalizing prospect for Man U fans, but they’ll do so with a sense of disappointment that it would hand the trophy to Manchester City, their cross-town rivals.
Liverpool are chasing the title, just one point off Pep Guardiola’s team in the Premier League table and they’re 19 points clear of Tuesday’s opponents. When they met at Old Trafford earlier this season they won 5-0 against a 10-man Man Utd team, in a performance that embarrassed them and was the beginning of the end for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s time at the club.
They come into this game with very different levels of form, with Ralf Rangnick, Solskjaer’s replacement, not doing that much better with the team than the Norwegian had.
United have only won two of their last five Premier League games, far short of Liverpool who have won four and drawn one. The Red Devils will be hoping that Liverpool’s battle on three different fronts could have tired them out, with Klopp’s team in a Champions League semi-final and an FA Cup final.
United are still battling for that fourth spot in the Prem, and although it seems unlikely they’ll get it, a shock win here would put them back in the race.
Both teams will be set up in 4-3-3 with Klopp likely to keep the core of their team the same as in recent games, although we might see some rotation in the front three with Sadio Mane doubtful for Tuesday’s match.
Rangnick doesn’t have such a clean bill of health for Man Utd, with a number of injuries and personal issues potentially robbing him of a number of key players. It looks like Bruno Fernandes will be able to play despite a minor car crash in the early hours of Monday morning.
Injuries to Fred and Scott McTominay ensure that Paul Pogba will feature despite being booed on the weekend, in what could be one of his final appearances in a United shirt.
At odds of -250, you’re not getting much value on Liverpool winning but with the Premier League challenge in full flow they should win this. Although I’d likely not want to put my own money on it at those prices. Man Utd fans won’t want to admit it but Liverpool are currently superior in every position and they will likely get another victory over the Red Devils on Tuesday.
Prediction: Liverpool moneyline (-250 at bet365)
Over/Under analysis
Over 2.5 just feels right here. That total has landed in 60% of Liverpool’s home games this season and 53.3% of Man Utd’s games on the road. With 79 goals in 31 games, Liverpool are the highest-scoring team in the Premier League, with United tied for fifth. Man U's defensive struggles could be an issue with the defense needing to really step up if Liverpool’s front three are at their deadly best.
In United’s past six games across all competitions, they’ve scored eight goals but given up 10, including two on the weekend against a dreadful Norwich team. Something that will have Klopp’s team licking their lips with anticipation.
In that same timeframe, Liverpool have scored 14, very impressive given two games came against the current Premier League champions. Again at -188, Over 2.5 goals isn't the most valuable bet, but it is one I'm sure will come through.
Prediction: Over 2.5 (-188 at bet365)
Best bet
There’s one market that really leaps out with this game and it's the alternative spreads, with a variety of different handicap lines worth looking at. The one which appeals most to me is Liverpool -2 at +280. They would need to win by three goals for it to hit but given their recent performances as well as what happened when they last met that feels very generous.
The 5-0 in the last meeting was no fluke and Liverpool should in theory put up similar numbers here, especially in front of a roaring Kop. Don’t forget that in the past two weeks Man Utd have played two relegation candidates in Norwich and Everton and only won one of those games, giving up three goals in the process.
Liverpool -2 looks like a gift for this matchup, especially with so little value in the more conventional betting markets for this game. Grab it while you can.
Pick: Liverpool -2 alternate spread (+280 at FanDuel)
