The New York Red Bulls seek to get their Leagues Cup campaign off to a strong start when they face the Chivas Guadalajara tonight from Sports Illustrated Stadium in Harrison, NJ.

The MLS side is in danger of its first three-match losing streak under manager Sandro Schwarz and has taken just six points from its last eight matches. Chivas are winless in their last six road matches, and are seeking their first-ever win in Leagues Cup play.

My Chivas Guadalajara vs New York Red Bulls predictions explain why there should be plenty of action in our free soccer picks for Thursday, July 31.

Chivas vs New York Red Bulls picks and predictions

My Chivas vs New York Red Bulls best bet: Both teams to score - Yes + Over 2.5 goals (-105 at bet365)

You have to go back to May 31 to find the New York Red Bulls’ last clean sheet, a 2-0 victory over Atlanta United that capped a three-match winning streak. Since then, it’s been an abysmal run where the Red Bulls have claimed just one win and three draws in eight matches.

Defensively, they’ve conceded multiple goals in five of those matches, but they’ve only been shut out twice in the span, with five matches going Over the 2.5-goal total.

Tonight's opponents are no strangers to entertaining matches, either. Chivas Guadalajara have played just twice in the new Liga MX campaign, but they’re coming in off a 4-3 win over San Luis that saw both teams take 14 shots and put eight on target.

Going back to last season, the Mexican side has just one clean sheet in its last nine matches. They were shut out in their opener this season against Leon, but scored in six of eight before that.

Led by American striker Cade Cowell, who was clocked as the fastest player in MLS in 2022, Chivas have lots of pace in attack. He will attack a Red Bulls team that hasn’t been defending well and gave up five goals two matches ago to Inter Miami.

Both teams play openly, and that typically lends itself to plenty of chances. We’ll bank on each side bagging a goal with at least three scored on the night.

Chivas vs New York Red Bulls same-game parlay (SGP)

Both teams to score - Yes

Over 2.5

Chivas double chance

Emil Forsberg goal or assist

Emil Forsberg has either scored or assisted on six of the last nine Red Bulls goals. Forsberg benefits from having Choupo-Moting playing in front of him, as well as his role taking corner kicks and free kicks.

The Red Bulls have won just once since the end of May, were blitzed 5-1 by Inter Miami, and lost 1-0 at Chicago this weekend as they were dominated in the first half and struggled to create chances in the second.

And much like Inter Miami, Chivas have the attackers who can cause New York problems in transition, which is their biggest weakness. Their pace will allow Chivas to find enough goals to get a draw or win.
