This early confrontation between two of the main contenders for the Premier League crown should be a statement and not just a casual match.

Arsenal finished second in each of the past four Premier League campaigns. The Gunners signed a host of stars this summer and their aim is to finally beat their recent frustrations and get the trophy they are after.

They travel to Anfield to deliver more than a result in front of the defending champions. I see goals coming at both ends in this much-anticipated game.

See why in my Liverpool vs. Arsenal predictions and betting picks for Sunday, August 31.

Premier League predictions for Liverpool vs Arsenal

My Liverpool vs Arsenal best bet: Over 3.5 goals (+175 at Sports Interaction)

Liverpool has scored at least two goals in 28 of their last 33 matches. Since the start of this campaign, they have put four past Bournemouth in a 4-2 win and three past Newcastle in another triumph, 3-2.

The fact that they conceded twice in each of their games clearly shows there are gaps in their defensive play. And Arsenal have the quality to exploit liabilities.

Liverpool only lost three of their last 36 Premier League encounters, but Arsenal's record is not bad either. They left the pitch defeated just twice in their previous 30 outings. I see goals in this clash.

Arsenal need more than a result to send a message to the other Prem suitors. This feels like the perfect context for a performance that could set the rhythm of their entire season. I will opt for the Over 3.5 goals.

Arsenal's 5-0 win over Leeds last week, which came a week after a 1-0 triumph over Man United at Old Trafford, showed great potential and tactical variations in Mikel Arteta's setup.

They will be tested by Liverpool's volume and quality, so expect a fair football fight that could well make its way among the season's games to remember.

Liverpool vs Arsenal same-game parlay (SGP)

Over 3.5 goals

Over 9.5 corners

Mohamed Saleh anytime goal scorer

Loads of action are expected in both boxes, and the keepers should be troubled, given the attacking quality of both sides. There will be context for set pieces. Liverpool have conceded 14 corners in their first two games, so Arsenal should also look to capitalize on these static moments of the game, which they excelled at last season.

I'll go for the over 9.5 corners in this match.

To round up a nice return at Sports Interaction, I added Mohamed Salah as an anytime goalscorer. Last season's Golden Boot only hit the net once in the three official games Liverpool has played since the start of the campaign.

Salah will look to take centre stage in this major confrontation, so I'm backing him to score.
