Barcelona vs Juventus picks and predictions

My first thought was to back the Catalans to win, available at a nice -125 on the moneyline but I’ve studied the potential teams and to me, there’s one bet which really leaps out. We're going to back the Over 2.5 with both teams to score at -110.

This game sees both teams in strong fitness shape. Barcelona aren’t really missing anyone and Sergino Dest, Clement Lenglet and Franck Kessie are in the squad, despite the club looking to offload them this summer. Likewise, Juventus have only asked Leonardo Bonucci to stay away as they look to find a new home for the aging club captain.

This is going to give us a great opportunity to see how Xavi’s new signings fit into his Barcelona team with Inigo Martinez and Ilkay Gundogan set to play. Gundogan, in particular, will be fascinating, having won the treble at Man City last season and showing why he’s viewed as one of the best midfielders of this era. It’ll be interesting to see how Xavi fits him into his plans.

We’re going to see Pedri and Gavi alongside the German, with Raphinha and Robert Lewandowski tasked with banging in the goals for Barcelona and they’ll be ready to cause the Juventus backup nightmares.

Max Allegri will see new signing Tim Weah get a game in front of this American crowd and we could see Weston McKennie, back from a loan at Leeds, as another USMNT player who’ll feature.

Juventus' hopes will be based around Arkadiusz Milik and Federico Chiesa and that duo will be able to cause issues for a Barcelona defense who are getting used to the new signing of Martinez.

Both teams have immensely talented attacking players and question marks at the back, with both defenses rebuilding. With that in mind, as well as the fairly relaxed friendly nature of a preseason game, it feels like we’re likely to see a number of goals with both teams getting on the scoresheet.

My best bet: Over 2.5 + both teams to score (-110 at FanDuel)

Barcelona vs Junventus same-game parlay

Both teams to score (-164)

Over 2.5 (-144)

Both teams to score in the second half (+205)

Sometimes, when you build a same-game parlay, you look to create a bet which will give you a massive return, and other times you look to create a bet which offers real value without being massive odds. This SGP is one of those and only clocks in at +226 but in my view, it offers some serious value.

Two of the three legs relate to my best bet. Firstly, I think that with the firepower on offer for both teams including goal machines like Polish strikers Lewandowski and Milik, we’re set to see both Barcelona and Juventus find the scoresheet.

Next up, we’re expecting three or more goals here easily, so Over 2.5 goals makes sense, especially with some of the changes that both teams have gone through this offseason, as well as neither side being totally match-sharp yet.

Then finally, we’re betting on both teams scoring in the second half. The reasoning for that is simple, in the second half we’re likely to see both teams tiring and plenty of substitutes for both sides. That should lead to a more disjointed game but one which should see plenty of late action.

Barcelona vs Juventus spread and Over/Under analysis

I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t tempted to back Barcelona on the moneyline here at -125.

When you look at both teams, they have by far the strongest group of players. Not only that but last season they won their domestic title, with Juventus struggling in Serie A. The teams aren’t an exact match from last season but there’s enough similarity to expect that gulf in class to still exist.

If this was a competitive fixture I’d be telling you to back Barca but I can’t help thinking it’s something that should be avoided given its status as a preseason affair. There are other ways, such as my best bet, which I think offer a better chance of winning and don’t require either side to be at their best.

If you’ve gotten this far, you’ll know I’m expecting Over 2.5 goals and -144 isn’t a bad price for that. I’d personally rather back that than Barcelona winning on the moneyline, despite thinking that both should happen.
