Anyone else think as they were watching it what Michigan had the guy all the way at the top for?

He was all the way at the top by himself - nobody to block, nobody to tackle, you don't really care where the ball winds up if it's kicked. I was thinking why is he not behind the punter just in case a bad snap or something.

One of my good friends just moved back to Michigan and is a Michigan St guy and I just text him and said I couldn't even congratulate him yet because I was so stunned. Man do I hate kickers!

It's Harbaugh's fault.  You don't punt with that little time left.

yes you do. You don't do a rugby punt or go through a full 2-3 steps. You take 1 step and punt it. If he went for it, then he leaves MSU a chance at a hail mary. I would give them a hail mary from their own 25-30 than at the Michigan 45. A 45 yard hail mary or a 70 yarder. Which do you think has a better chance?

I agree. Too much can happen with a punt, a return, block, a bad snap, one of the last people on the team I want handling the ball is the punter or field goal kicker, reminds me of  Garo Yepremian for the dolphins in the super bowl but much worse. someone should have been back there with the punter to fall on that ball

a quarter back could take a pooch punt  but if you do punt you have a few people back there to fall on the ball and every scenario covered so the punter knows to fall on the ball. That play shouldnt have happened

harbaugh or the special teams coach is an idiot for letting a play like that happen, that punter should have had it drilled in his head to fall on the ball if something goes wrong

So Harbaugh didn't have ALL of his players concentrated to make plays. He isn't flawless. Michigan is exposed. Ohio State might also get a piece of them. Ill bet oddsmakers dumb enough to favor the Wolverines. Preseason MSU was -5, and pretty much played to that line.

Craziest ending I have ever seen! Coaches would NEVER do this, but how about keeping Rudock out there in shotgun....snap the ball to him and he chucks it as far and high as he can out of bounds. It may not take out all 10 seconds, but it would only leave MSU with 2-3 secs and not in field goal territory. And who knows, if he can scramble even just a little bit then throw it away it may have taken out all 10 seconds.

Thats why I dont like harbaugh, of course that is what he should have done and they should have spent that whole drive drilling it into his head and there should have been guys back there to fall on the ball, a pooch punt is alot safe .

This is why you have special teams coaches and you have that punter sitting over there on the sidelines the whole drive and you are telling him exactly what he needs to do with a bad or fumbled snap, fall on it!

5th year senior punter.   Went from hero in the first quarter with an 80 yard punt, to a zero a couple hours later.

This is why you have special teams coaches and you have that punter sitting over there on the sidelines the whole drive and you are telling him exactly what he needs to do with a bad or fumbled snap, fall on it!

Your thinking is all flawed. First would you rather have a punter back there who it's his job to punt or a QB who doesn't kick. What if the QB misses the ball or drops it or gets a snap just like this kid did. As far as having people back,  MSU had no one back so it wouldn't have mattered so that's flawed as well. There were :10 left, no one for MSU was back so as I have stated many times, the kid should have taken 1 step, not his usual rugby. Once the snap was low, people have been saying he should have ran out the clock, sorry but there was too much time. I have said this in a number of threads, either the coaches didn't drill it in his head or they did and he panicked. Said this also in a number of threads, you fall on it and you leave a low % hail mary to beat you. It comes down to the coaches failing to coach him up or the kid panicked and didn't do what they told him. But pooch punt and having people back on this play did no good.

How is my thinking flawed? That is what exactly I am saying in the post, this kid was on the sidelines the whole drive and should have had a kicking coach, head coach  or whoever, drill it into his head that you fall on the ball!!!

they should have had someone back there as well, no reason to have that guy out wide for no return , a punt is a very dangerous play , tons of things can happen. bad snap bad catch, block return, a pooch  punt may only go ten yards and all they have is a chance for a hail mary.  what I am saying is that this australian  kid doesn't deserve this kind of hell, this should be on his coaches
