The Edmonton Oilers slept through their alarm during Tuesday’s 4-3 overtime loss to the Sabres, but I’m anticipating the Oil showing up on time and taking care of business against the Detroit Red Wings at Rogers Place tonight.

My Red Wings vs. Oilers predictions and top NHL picks are calling for a convincing Edmonton win with superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl leading the way.

Red Wings vs Oilers prediction

Red Wings vs Oilers Best bet: Oilers -1.5 (+120)

There has been a lot of smoke and mirrors from the Detroit Red Wings through the first four stops of this current six-game road trip, and playing for the second consecutive night and third time in four days against the Edmonton Oilers might be the toughest test on the trip.

Edmonton has gone 7-3-3 at Rogers Place to start the season, and the Oilers have received elite production from superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl on home ice with a combined 17 goals and 41 points.

Detroit has also given up 3+ goals in three of the first four stops of the road trip, and Cam Talbot is likely to be between the pipes tonight. The veteran has allowed 4+ in three of his past four starts while posting an abysmal .840 SV% and 3.94 GAA with -4.01 goals saved above expected.

The Red Wings also lost top-pairing defenseman Simon Edvinsson (lower body) during Wednesday’s game, and he’ll probably be playing at less than full health if he suits up at all.

Edmonton is beginning to turn the corner with an eighth-ranked 54.8 expected goals percentage at 5-on-5 and top-ranked 36.8 power-play percentage during an active 4-2-1 stretch, too.

Red Wings vs Oilers same-game parlay

McDavid has been a force on home ice, as noted, and he’s posted a multi-point night in eight of 13 games at Rogers Arena this season. Of course, No. 97 also paced the NHL in points per 60 minutes at home over the prior three seasons.

Turning to Draisaitl, his shot volume is up... big time.

He’s recorded 35 shots on 65 attempts across his past 12 games, with 3+ shots in eight of the 12. The run is sustainable, too. Draisaitl’s 8.13 shots and 15.09 attempts per 60 minutes are right in line with his respective 8.58 and 15.77 marks over the previous two years.
