Best NHL Player Prop Bets Today, April 30: Gallagher Gets to Work

Our NHL player prop picks are calling for a return to form for the Canadiens' Brendan Gallagher after an uncharacteristically quiet Game 4 from him. Plus, bank on Carter Verhaeghe and Alex Iafallo to struggle tonight.

There are three games on the ice Wednesday, April 30, and I’ve got a trio of NHL player props to cover all the action.

The Montreal Canadiens and Tampa Bay Lightning are looking to avoid elimination in their respective Game 5s, while either the St. Louis Blues and Winnipeg Jets will grab a 3-2 series lead with their own Game 5 victory.

Best NHL player prop bets for April 30

Brendan Gallagher Over 1.5 shots on goal (-139 at Sports Interaction)

It was a quiet Game 4 for Brendan Gallagher. He failed to hit the net on his only shot attempt after piling up nine shots and 22 attempts through the first three games of the series. I expect him to be more involved again Wednesday considering he’s second on the Montreal Canadiens in attempts per 60 minutes through four games.

Gallagher sports a 51.7 Corsi For percentage at 5-on-5 and driven possession with linemates Christian Dvorak and Josh Anderson for a 52.2% mark.

Finally, I also value Gallagher’s willingness to shoot when he isn’t in prime real estate. Of his 13 attempts just two have qualified as high-danger scoring chances and only six counted as scoring chances.

Carter Verhaeghe Under 0.5 points (-110 at Sports Interaction)

It’s been a solid but unspectacular start to the series for Carter Verhaeghe. He picked up an assist in Game 1 and scored an empty-net goal for the Florida Panthers in Game 4. Otherwise, he’s been relatively quiet and playing consistently against the two best lines and top-four defensemen for the Tampa Bay Lightning.

Verhaeghe has only been on the ice for three goals and 2.64 expected goals at 5-on-5 and four and 4.15 overall through the four games, too. Additionally, Game 4 was an incredibly low-event contest, and I expect Game 5 to play out similarly.

Alex Iafallo Under 0.5 points (-133 at Sports Interaction)

With Gabriel Vilardi (upper body) is expected to return to action for the Winnipeg Jets on Wednesday, Alex Iafallo projects to lose his spot on the No. 1 power-play unit and slot down a line to skate with Vladislav Namestnikov and Cole Perfetti at 5-on-5.

It’s a significant hit to Iafallo’s offensive upside, and he hasn’t hit the scoresheet since his Game 1 goal despite a cushy gig skating with Mark Schiefele and Kyle Conner — Winnipeg’s two best scorers. Additionally, Namestnikov, Iafallo, and Perfetti only played 39:18 together at 5-on-5 during the regular season, so there isn’t oodles of chemistry to build on.
