Our best NHL player props for Thursday, October 16
Take a look at our best bets and expert analysis below.
Prop #1: Connor McDavid Over 1.5 points
Connor McDavid is off to a bit of a slow start this season when it comes to actually putting the puck in the net. While he’s tallied four assists, the superstar hasn’t scored. That being said, it’s only a matter of time until he finds his best in all the ways offensively, and tonight is a perfect opportunity to have a big game.
The Edmonton Oilers face the winless New York Islanders, who are one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL. McDavid also happened to light them up last season, registering five points in only two games.
McDavid cashed the Over in points in the season opener with two helpers, and he’s put up a point apiece in his two other games so far.

Prop #2: Nathan MacKinnon anytime goal
Nathan MacKinnon is one of the best players in the league, coming out of the gates firing for the Colorado Avalanche, already scoring four goals and setting up another four in as many appearances. He cannot be contained.
The former Hart Trophy winner has scored in each of his last three contests, netting twice in Monday’s victory over the Buffalo Sabres. The Avs face the Columbus Blue Jackets tonight, and while they’re only allowing three goals per contest, we’re talking about MacKinnon. It doesn’t matter who he’s playing against.
MacKinnon will stay hot and pot another goal this evening.

Prop #3: Zach Werenski Over 3.5 shots on goal
I know this is a high SOG total, but Zach Werenski has been lighting it up this season when it comes to creating opportunities. Although the 28-year-old defenseman has just three points, he’s leading the NHL with over six shots on goal per contest. He’s registered Over 3.5 shots on target in every game, totaling 19 already.
Werenski has seven SOG in back-to-back games, and he also had five in the season opener. He’s getting a ton of pucks on net. It will be more difficult to do so tonight, as the Avalanche are allowing 27 on target, which is 12th in the league, but he’s consistently showing that he can generate chances.
