The Edmonton Oilers are playing the second leg of a back-to-back road set and face the Tampa Bay Lightning at Benchmark International Arena on Thursday, November 20.

My top Oilers vs. Lightning predictions and NHL picks are calling for Edmonton to pull off the road upset with the Tampa Bay blueline missing multiple top-four defensemen.

Oilers vs Lightning prediction

Oilers vs Lightning Best bet: Oilers moneyline (+147)

With the Edmonton Oilers inching closer and closer to a lost season, we’re landing a fair number on the moneyline to back them to win tonight.

There are obvious shortcomings in Edmonton.

The lineup lacks secondary scoring, and the Oilers are also playing mediocre hockey at 5-on-5 with a 15th-ranked Corsi For percentage and 22nd-ranked expected goals percentage.

Sporting a league-low PDO and team save percentage at 5-on-5 is also a huge problem, albeit an unsustainable one.

The goaltending will improve, and there is enough talent and veteran presence to steer this train in the right direction before this season goes completely off the rails.

Meanwhile, the Tampa Bay Lightning have major question marks on the blueline with Victor Hedman (undisclosed) not participating in the morning skate, and Ryan McDonagh (undisclosed) on injured reserve.

Those are two top-four defensemen appearing unlikely to suit up tonight, so if Edmonton was ever going to break through, tonight’s the night.

Oilers vs Lightning same-game parlay

Pair the Tampa blueline concerns with the two teams trending to the Over, and I’m expecting this to be a high-scoring game. The Over has cashed in six of Edmonton's past eight games, and Tampa has gone Over the number in 26 of its past 46 home games (+8.25 Units / 16% ROI).

Oilers forward Jack Roslovic has established himself in a top-six role and recorded two or more shots in 13 of his past 15 games to rank fourth on the team. He’s also averaging a healthy 18:44 of ice time per night during the stretch.
