Mikko Rantanen Picks, Predictions & Best Bets for Oilers vs Stars Game 5

If the Stars want to make a series of it against the Oilers, Mikko Rantanen will need to have a productive game. We think that will manifest in the form of assists in Game 5.

The Edmonton Oilers are one win away from booking back-to-back trips to the Stanley Cup Final, and they can do just that with a road victory over the Dallas Stars at the American Airlines Center on Thursday, May 29.

Don’t count Dallas out just yet, though. The Stars have been a force on home ice, and my top NHL picks for the Mikko Rantanen odds are calling for a big showing from the go-to Finn tonight.

Mikko Rantanen best bet

Over 0.5 assists (-105 at BET99)

Dallas Stars winger Mikko Rantanen has shifted it into playmaker gear since scoring hat tricks in consecutive games earlier in the postseason. He’s collected five assists while scoring just a single goal across the nine games since.

Additionally, Rantanen has also been more productive on home ice with seven assists — five goals — through nine games at American Airlines Center.

Another primary reason I value the assist market for Game 5 is because I expect him to log huge minutes, with head coach Pete DeBoer finding creative ways to find on-ice mismatches with the last-change advantage. Look for Rantanen to be given multiple extra shifts.

Of course, Edmonton Oilers No. 1 goalie Stuart Skinner has statistical correction ahead of his otherworldly run.

He’s allowed a single goal or fewer in five of his past seven games while posting an eye-popping .941 save percentage, 1.55 GAA, and registered 9.53 goals saved above expected.

Mikko Rantanen same-game parlay

Mikko Rantanen Over 0.5 assists

Mikko Rantanen Over 2.5 shots on goal

Stars moneyline

Rantanen’s shot volume has dipped in the past three games with just 4.84 shots and 12.58 attempts per 60 minutes. It’s a far cry from the respective 8.12 and 16.19 marks he posted across his first 14 playoff games of the spring.

I expect an uptick from the Finn with the season on the line.

Finally, I expect Dallas to return this series to Rogers Place for a Game 6.

The Stars have been absolute beasts at the American Airlines Center — winning 35 of their last 51 and seven of nine this postseason at home. They're crushing it on special teams, too, and the Stars have a plus-11 goal differential overall at home in the playoffs.

Dallas No. 1 Jake Oettinger has also been locked in with a .916 save percentage and 2.26 GAA on home ice.
