Fresh off a thrilling win vs. the Winnipeg Jets on Thursday, the Toronto Maple Leafs look to stay hot as they visit the New York Islanders tonight.

Captain, Auston Matthews has been surging offensively since the Christmas break, and I expect him to keep rolling tonight while on milestone watch.

Find out why with my free NHL picks for Saturday, January 3.

Maple Leafs vs Islanders prediction

Maple Leafs vs Islanders best bet: Auston Matthews anytime goal (+115)

The Toronto Maple Leafs captain had his best game of the season on Thursday in Toronto’s 6-5 win over the Jets, scoring three goals, including the game-winner, while also assisting on the game-tying goal.

Overall, Auston Matthews is riding a three-game point streak where he has four goals and four assists in that stretch.

This sudden goal-scoring surge has Matthews within one goal of tying Mats Sundin for the all-time Leafs lead with 420 goals.

I’m banking on him hitting that milestone tonight.

When Matthews is revved up, he scores in bunches. The way he played on Thursday gives me confidence in this offensive surge continuing, especially against a struggling New York Islanders team.

The Isles have lost five of their last eight, allowing 24 goals in that stretch with a 69.6% penalty kill.

The Leafs’ PP is on fire right now, converting in over half their opportunities since returning from holiday break with Auston Matthews netting a PPG last game, and two additional helpers over that stretch.

Additionally, Matthews has five goals in the last six games against New York.

Maple Leafs vs Islanders same-game parlay

I’ll also add Mathews’ linemate Max Domi to my bet card, by backing him to go Over 0.5 points. He and Matthews are starting to regain that chemistry from 2024 with six points in his last five games playing on the top line and top PP unit.

I’ll also add Jake McCabe to go Over 2.5 blocks tonight. He’s the Leafs’ leading shot blocker this season with 103 blocks, averaging 2.8 blocks per game over his last 10 outings.

Maple Leafs vs Islanders SGP

  • Matthews to score
  • Domi Over 0.5 points
  • McCabe Over 2.5 blocks
