Lightning vs Hurricanes Game 2 Picks and Predictions: Goaltending Shines in Carolina

Hurricanes goalie Alex Nedeljkovic has been a stud this season and Andrei Vasilevskiy is obviously no slouch, either. Great goaltending is why the Under is 9-1-1 in the last 11 head-to-head meetings.

Moneyline pick

The Carolina Hurricanes finished the regular season atop a highly competitive Central Division, edging the Florida Panthers by a single point and having a five-point lead on the Lightning despite the same amount of wins.

The Lightning are a fantastic team in every facet of the game, they have an explosive and deep group of forwards, a strong defense, and one of the top goalies in the world in Andrei Vasilevskiy.

That said, the Bolts weren't quite as impressive on the road, winning 15 of 28 games with a goal differential of plus-3. And while Vasilevskiy had a sensational 1.75 GAA and .936 save percentage in 20 games at home, those numbers dropped to 2.63 and .916 in 22 away contests.

The Hurricanes are pretty much the epitome of their head coach Rod Brind'Amour — a tough, hard-nosed squad that dominates in the face-off circle, excels on special teams, and controls possession.

Carolina was sensational at home during the regular season, going 20-3-5 with a goal differential of plus-38. Expect the Canes to fight back in Game 2 and even the series at PNC Arena.

PREDICTION: Carolina (-110)

Over/Under pick

These teams combined for just three goals on Sunday and have now gone 9-1-1 to the Under in their last 11 meetings.

Vasilevskiy is one of the best in the business, winning the Vezina Trophy in 2019 and posting a 2.21 GAA and .925 save percentage this season. In his last two games, the Russian netminder has turned aside 66 of 67 shots.

Carolina has a very good goalie of its own in rookie Alex Nedeljkovic. The 2014 second-round draft pick wrapped up the regular season with a 15-5-3 record, 1.90 GAA, and a save percentage of .932.

The 25-year-old hasn't faded under the bright lights of the playoffs, either, taking over the No. 1 gig and going 4-3 with a 2.19 GAA and a .923 save percentage.

With the Lightning going 6-1-1 to the Under in their last eight games on the road and the Canes cashing the Under in four of their previous five contests at home, bet the Under in Game 2.

PREDICTION: Under 5.5 (-110)
