The marquee matchup in the late window features the Colorado Avalanche hosting the Los Angeles Kings at Ball Arena, with the two Western Conference powerhouses going head-to-head for the first time this season.

Colorado has won three straight on home ice, but my top Kings vs. Avalanche predictions and NHL picks are eyeing Los Angeles for a road upset Wednesday, November 13.

My analysis

While the Colorado Avalanche have won three straight on home ice, I think they’re being overpriced and the value is on the Los Angeles Kings as a road underdog tonight.

The Kings have been the superior team all season with a better goals and expected goals percentage at 5-on-5 for the year, in addition to over both the past five and past 10 games. Los Angeles has also been incredibly strong defensively with the fewest expected goals against at 5-on-5, and No. 1 goalie Darcy Kuemper is rounding into form with a respectable .906 save percentage and 2.17 GAA across his past six starts.

If the Kings go with backup David Rittich, he’s also been up to the task with respective .940 and 1.50 marks as the No. 2 since Kuemper returned from a lower-body injury.

Colorado is still missing a number of secondary scorers, and I’m not convinced starter Alexandar Georgiev is all the way back after winning two of the past three. He still sports a confidence-shattering .893 SV%, 3.09 GAA, and -0.13 goals saved above average per 60 dating back to last season, after all.

The elephant in the room, or on the ice, is the advantage the Avs have with the man advantage.

Still, I’m anticipating statistical correction ahead of both the Colorado power play and Los Angeles penalty kill. The Avalanche are sporting a second-ranked 33.3 PP% after posting a 24.5% mark last year, and the Kings have a 16th-ranked 79.4 PK% after posting an 84.6% mark in 2023-24.

So, with the Kings sporting the superior 5-on-5 numbers, I’m happy to take the plus-money price with the road underdog tonight.

Kings vs Avalanche same-game parlay (SGP)

Kings moneyline

Brandt Clarke Over 0.5 assists

Kevin Fiala Over 2.5 shots

Kings rookie Brandt Clarke has seen his ice time skyrocket the past three games to 22:23 per night with 4:07 on the power play, which is way above his 18:25 and 3:06 averages to start the year. He’s also collected 11 assists through 17 games and is second on the club in assists per 60 (2.04) and quarterbacks the No. 1 PP unit.

Colorado ranks 28th with a 72.1 PK%, too.

Turning to Los Angeles winger Kevin Fiala, he’s recorded three or more shots in nine of 16 games and also paces the club in both shots (10.64) and attempts (19.74) per 60 minutes.

Finally, there’s also a small edge in the available numbers for this same-game parlay. This SGP is priced at +625 at bet365, so there’s a positive expected value of 7% attached to the +675 DraftKings odds.
