Hurricanes vs Golden Knights Odds, Picks, and Predictions Tonight: Canes Storm Through Vegas

The Hurricanes haven't made any big splashes ahead of the deadline, but they haven't really needed to. They're a better team than the ailing Golden Knights, and that's why they're a solid road favorite, as our NHL expert picks outline.

The Carolina Hurricanes hit the road to meet the Vegas Golden Knights on Wednesday night at T-Mobile Arena.

The Hurricanes finally joined the trade parade, picking up Jesse Puljujarvi from the Edmonton Oilers on Tuesday. The newcomer is expected to join the team in Las Vegas, but he is unlikely to debut Wednesday.

The Golden Knights also have a shiny new toy, adding Ivan Barbashev from the St. Louis Blues on Sunday. He made his debut Monday in Colorado, going scoreless with a minus-1 rating.

Carolina lost 3-2 at home against Anaheim on Saturday, snapping a five-game winning streak. The Hurricanes are still 14-2-1 across their last 17 games. Vegas has picked up points in three of their past four outings, but it is 1-1-2 during the span.

Can the Hurricanes stay hot in the desert, or will the Golden Knights rebound with a win after getting blanked last time out? We’ll discuss in our NHL picks and predictions for Hurricanes vs. Golden Knights on Wednesday, March 1.

Hurricanes vs Golden Knights best odds

Hurricanes vs Golden Knights picks and predictions

The Hurricanes kick off a two-game road trip against the Golden Knights and Arizona Coyotes. Carolina enters play three points ahead of the New Jersey Devils in the Metropolitan Division with a game in hand, but the race figures to be right down to the wire, with the New York Rangers also making moves to take the division title.

The Golden Knights are coming off a 3-0 shutout loss against the Colorado Avalanche, so Vegas hopes to get well at home. Win or lose, it has been close in The Fortress lately. The past four games in Vegas have been one-score games, with the Knights winning twice in regulation and once in overtime, while losing their last home game against the Dallas Stars in a shootout.

The Hurricanes are projected to start Frederik Andersen (14-5-0, 2.47 GAA, .905 SV%), with the Golden Knights countering with Adin Hill (14-6-1, 2.52 GAA, .912 SV%).

Vegas continues to have some injury woes in the crease, as Hill missed time late in the month of February due to an undisclosed illness. Logan Thompson remains on injured reserve due to a lower-body injury, so Hill and Laurent Brossoit are trying to hold down the fort.

Advantage Carolina, as it has a full cadre of goaltenders, as well as a superior defense and offense, even if it hasn’t been terribly active in the trade market as of yet.

The Hurricanes are just fine the way they are, as Carolina has picked up five straight wins on the road, while going 20-8 in their last 28 games against winning teams. Expect the Hurricanes to grab the victory in Sin City.

Hurricanes vs Golden Knights moneyline analysis

The Hurricanes wet the bed against the Anaheim Ducks last time out. It’s rather uncanny, as the lowly Ducks – with their NHL-worst minus-96 goal differential – ended up sweeping the season series.

It’s a good thing Carolina doesn’t face Anaheim again this season. The weird thing about the Hurricanes is that this team seems to get up for the big games, and plays down to their competition. This is a team which also was blown out 4-0 at home against the Arizona Coyotes at home, but also crushed the NHL-leading Boston Bruins 4-1 last month. The better the competition, the better the Canes tend to play.

Not only is Carolina 5-0 in the past five on the road, it has posted 72 wins in the past 105 tries against Western Conference teams, which is good for a winning percentage of .686. It is 39-16 in its last 55 games against Pacific Division foes, too, which equates to a .709 winning percentage.

The Golden Knights have cashed in five of their last six games overall, but that doesn’t mean a lot against the Hurricanes. Vegas has won just once in the past five meetings with Carolina, with the favorite cashing in five of the previous seven in the series.

Again, health is huge, and Carolina has it. Vegas is just trying to stay in the playoff picture with a patchwork goaltender room.

Hurricanes vs Golden Knights Over/Under analysis

The Hurricanes have cashed the Under in each of their last four games overall, while going 5-2 in the previous seven tries against teams with a winning overall record.

As far as the Golden Knights are concerned, they have cashed the Under in five of their last seven against teams from the Eastern Conference.

In addition, Vegas has cashed the Under at a 9-0 clip in its last nine games following a loss of three or more goals. The Golden Knights have hit the Under at a 3-1 clip in the past four, totaling just eight goals of support for Brossoit and Hill in the cage, while allowing exactly three goals in each of the previous four.

Roll with the Under, and pair it with the Hurricanes on the moneyline for a tremendous parlay opportunity.
