The Montreal Canadiens host the Philadelphia Flyers at the Bell Centre on Tuesday, December 16, with the two Eastern Conference foes looking to further solidify their postseason positions.

My Flyers vs. Canadiens predictions and NHL picks are headlined by Cole Caufield, who should be in for a busy night tonight

Flyers vs Canadiens prediction

Flyers vs Canadiens best bet: Cole Caufield Over 2.5 shots on goal (-130)

Montreal Canadiens winger Cole Caufield has three or more shots in five of his past seven games, amounting to 24 total on 45 attempts.

Home ice has also been kind to the go-to winger of late, with Caufield recording at least three shots in six of the past eight at the Bell Centre.

His 9.71 shots and 18.92 attempts per 60 minutes at home since the calendar flipped to November are notably higher than his respective 8.46 and 16.38 marks on the highway.

Caufield also ranks in the 94th percentile of forwards in shots on goal for the season, while also pacing the Habs in shots and attempts per 60 with the man advantage.

Additionally, this matchup isn’t as daunting as it might look at first glance.

The Philadelphia Flyers rank 27th in Corsi For percentage at 5-on-5 on the highway, and they also average the seventh-most shorthanded time per game.

So, while Philly allows the fifth-fewest shots per game (25.9), I’m anticipating Caufield having more than enough opportunities to collect at least three tonight.

Flyers vs Canadiens same-game parlay

The Canadiens have rolled off a 7-4-1 run despite an underwhelming — and unsustainable — .895 team SV% at 5-on-5.

Montreal pacing the NHL in power-play percentage during the stretch has been a nice buoy, but I’m anticipating the goaltending to improve, starting tonight.

Philadelphia ranks 26th in goals per game (2.81) and 29th in expected goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5, after all.

Pair the Flyers' lack of offense with their focus on sound team defense, and I also like the Under. Philly has allowed the ninth-fewest goals per game (2.77) while surrendering the 10th-fewest expected goals per 60 at 5-on-5.
