It hasn't been all sunshine and rainbows for the Oilers, but they'll end 2025 on a high note.

The Edmonton Oilers have turned their season around after playing 16 of their first 24 games on the road, and they’ll host the reeling Boston Bruins at Rogers Place on Wednesday, December 31.

My Bruins vs. Oilers predictions and NHL picks expect a convincing win from Edmonton with superstar Connor McDavid taking center stage tonight.

Bruins vs Oilers prediction

Bruins vs Oilers best bet: Oilers moneyline (+130)

The Edmonton Oilers are trending in the right direction with an active 9-3-1 stretch that has positioned them atop the Pacific Division, and they’re also up to 10-3-3 on home ice for the campaign.

Superstars Connor McDavid and Leon Draisaitl have been monumental during the surge, with the duo ranking first and second in the NHL in points and combining for 58 total across the highlighted 13-game stretch.

Edmonton draws a sinking opponent tonight, too.

The Boston Bruins have dropped six straight and seven of eight with a 23rd-ranked expected goals percentage at 5-on-5 and -11 goal differential overall.

Additionally, Boston No. 1 Jeremy Swayman hasn’t been sharp on the road with a ho-hum .898 SV% and 3.17 GAA, so he’ll be in tough with Edmonton, averaging the second-most goals per home game (4.0).

Of course, the Bruins averaging the most shorthanded time per game also doesn’t match up well against the No. 1 power play in the league.

Bruins vs Oilers same-game parlay

With the Bruins scoring just 15 times during the highlighted seven-game skid and also ranking 25th in expected goals per 60 minutes at 5-on-5 on the highway, I’m not anticipating much offense from Boston tonight.

Additionally, I expect the Bruins to try and batten down the defensive hatches, which will make generating scoring chances all the more difficult.

Returning to McDavid, he’s recorded a multi-point game in six straight at Rogers Place for 20 total points. Plus, No. 97 also paces the NHL in points per 60 minutes at home over the past three years while piling up a monster 172 across 86 games.
