The goals are starting to come for Connor McDavid. He has scored three times in the past five games after finding twine just once over his first 10.

My Avalanche vs. Oilers predictions see the league’s best player potting another in a marquee matchup against Colorado.

Let’s break down my NHL picks for Saturday, November 8.

Avalanche vs Oilers prediction

Avalanche vs Oilers Best bet: Connor McDavid anytime goal (+135)

The puck is finally going in for Connor McDavid, but he’s just scratching the surface of what’s to come.

McDavid has still only scored four times on 6.6 expected goals generated. For reference, other star pivots like Sidney Crosby and Jack Hughes have potted 10+ goals on 6.7 expected goals.

Even his teammate, Leon Draisaitl, has found the back of the net 10 times on a very similar expected output (6.9).

Draisaitl is obviously more of a sharpshooter than McDavid but the latter consistently scores at or above his expected output, suggesting plenty more should be on the way.

McDavid’s shot volume has kicked up a notch since the puck started to go in. He scored his first goal of the year against Ottawa in Game No. 7 for Edmonton.

McDavid has generated at least three shots in seven of nine appearances dating back to that game.

The volume should continue to be there on Saturday night. McDavid is a better volume generator at home and always gets up for games against Colorado, averaging five shots on target over the last eight.

At this price, there’s plenty of value in backing McDavid to capitalize on one.

Avalanche vs Oilers same-game parlay

Jack Roslovic is enjoying some fine living with the Oilers. He’s riding shotgun with Leon Draisaitl at 5-on-5, with whom he averages nearly 10 shots on goal per 60 minutes.

He is also skating on the top power play. He couldn’t ask for a better role to record a couple of shots.

For Colorado, Brent Burns is a good target for shots. He’s recorded multiple in 12 of 14 games and attempted 4+ shots in all but one.
