Texans vs Steelers Weather & Odds Watch for Wild Card Weekend

C.J. Stroud has struggled away from the indoor confines of NRG Stadium, so Monday night’s elements in Steel City loom large.

It’s been quite a week for Acrisure Stadium.

You’ve likely seen the videos of the Pittsburgh Steelers crowd erupting after a missed field goal sent the team to the playoffs last weekend. Now, Steel City hosts the Houston Texans in the AFC Wild Card Round.

My Texans vs. Steelers weather report breaks down the forecast for this Wild Card Weekend finale and examines how it could impact the NFL odds for Monday, January 12.

Texans vs Steelers weather forecast

Partly cloudy skies hang over Acrisure Stadium, with 10 mph southwest winds gusting up to 21 mph across the field Monday night.

Temperatures just above freezing will feel like 26 degrees at the 8:15 p.m. ET kickoff.

How Texans vs Steelers weather impacts the odds

With mild winds and no snow or rain in the forecast, the tricky turf at Acrisure Stadium won’t be any worse than usual — and it’s already pretty slick.

At this point in the season, grass doesn’t grow back, and even re-sodding can’t prevent slippery footing, as we saw in last Sunday’s win for the Pittsburgh Steelers

Home-field advantage could matter, especially for Houston Texans quarterback C.J. Stroud, who struggles in outdoor venues. He shows notable career dips in completion rate and yards per attempt when leaving the fast track of NRG Stadium.

The Texans have averaged 21.8 points in open-air games, compared with 19.8 points on the road overall — a 7.5-point drop versus home production.

Additionally, NFL games in temperatures of 25 degrees or lower see an 8% decrease in passing production. Monday’s temperatures will flirt with that threshold due to wind chill.

Texans vs Steelers player props to watch

Given Stroud’s struggles in outdoor games and the Steelers’ pass rush testing a shaky Houston offensive line, there’s a clear path to the Under for the Texans’ quarterback.

Houston has played outdoors only once in its last eight games — a Week 14 trip to Kansas City — where Stroud completed just 48% of his passes, threw for barely over 200 yards, and took three sacks.

Stroud’s player prop passing yards range from 227.5 to 236.5, but our Covers prop projections call for less than 208 yards on Monday night.
