Texans vs Ravens Predictions - Early Picks & Odds for Week 5

Lamar Jackson left Week 4's loss to KC with an injury, but it appears to have been more precautionary than worrisome. If he's indeed active, the Ravens are easily the bet against the visiting Texans.

The Houston Texans head to M&T Bank Stadium to face Lamar Jackson and the Baltimore Ravens in NFL Week 5.

While Baltimore is coming off a loss to the Chiefs, my Texans vs Ravens predictions and NFL picks expect them to bounce back at home on Sunday, October 5.

Texans vs Ravens predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early Texans vs Ravens spread pick: Ravens -6.5

It hasn’t been a pretty start to the season for John Harbaugh’s Baltimore Ravens. Yes, they’ve been dealt a tough schedule early on, but Baltimore has a 1-3 record. They threw away a Week 1 victory against the Buffalo Bills, allowing Josh Allen & Co. to mount a wild comeback. The Ravens also lost to the Detroit Lions and, most recently, the Kansas City Chiefs.

Baltimore needs to beat these contenders if it’s going to be a Super Bowl team. That being said, the motivation is sky-high for the Ravens to respond in Week 5 because if they don’t, it puts them in a concerning hole.

The Ravens are 1-1 at home, with their lone victory coming against the Cleveland Browns. Lamar Jackson did suffer a hamstring injury on Sunday against KC, but it appears the Ravens held him out more as a precaution.

Based on Baltimore sitting as an early 7-point favorite versus the Houston Texans, Jackson should play. As long as he's active, I expect the Ravens to cover on home soil. The Texans have struggled offensively this year, and Baltimore will be hungry to make a statement.

Early Texans vs Ravens total pick: Over 43.5

The Texans finally found some success on Sunday with a 26-0 win over the Tennessee Titans, and Week 5 presents an opportunity for them to keep it rolling.

The Ravens are allowing a league-worst 33.3 PPG. They’ve been horrible defensively, and Houston does have some weapons that could make some noise.

As for Baltimore’s offense, well, as long as Jackson is on the field, they’re capable. He’s a threat in several ways, and Derrick Henry is also having a nice season once again.

While I do expect Baltimore to come out on top, I also wouldn’t be surprised if it’s a shootout.
