The Pittsburgh Steelers hit the road as slight favorites for today's matchup against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, but asking bettors to lay points on a team with well-documented road struggles creates a tough spot.

My top Steelers vs. Buccaneers predictions and NFL picks are backing Tampa Bay to defend home turf and keep this contest competitive at Raymond James Stadium ahead of the 1 p.m. ET kickoff on Sunday, Oct. 18 (FOX).

 TOP Pick
Steelers vs Buccaneers prediction today: Buccaneers +2.5

I love the Tampa Bay Buccaneers +2.5 down to a pick 'em in a sell-high spot against the Pittsburgh Steelers, who beat an overrated Indianapolis Colts team last week.

Pittsburgh had a worse early-down success rate against Indianapolis and needed 50- and 80-yard touchdowns from Jaylen Warren to break the game open. Tampa Bay is a much tougher opponent for Pittsburgh.

The Buccaneers are fourth in defensive rushing EPA per play, according to RBSDM.com, and second in yards per rush allowed on defense.  If Tampa can take away the run, I'll take my chances on Aaron Rodgers beating me.

Rodgers is 22nd in QBR, while the Steelers are 30th in average yards of separation per pass target, according to Pro.NFL.com.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Pittsburgh has one of the biggest home-field advantages in the NFL. Since 2021, the Steelers have a -4.3 scoring margin in road games and the second-best winning percentage at home.

Steelers vs Buccaneers combo

Tampa Bay doesn’t need to dominate this game for the combo to cash. It just needs QB Jalon Daniels to keep the offense moving and avoid putting the defense in bad spots.

Buccaneers wideout Emeka Egbuka should be a big part of that. If he keeps commanding targets and creating manageable downs, Tampa can sustain drives instead of constantly punting the ball back to Pittsburgh. That gives running back Bucky Irving more chances to finish possessions near the goal line.

The script is pretty simple: Egbuka helps move the chains, Irving cashes in one of those scoring opportunities, and the Buccaneers stay competitive enough throughout to cover the spread or win outright.

Steelers vs Buccaneers combo

  • Tampa Bay +2.5
  • Bucky Irving anytime touchdown
  • Emeka Egbuka 40+ receiving yards

Steelers vs Buccaneers touchdown scorer: Pat Freiermuth

Tight end Pat Freiermuth's anytime touchdown probability is playable up to 28%.

Freiermuth leads Pittsburgh with four receiving touchdowns, and he boasts the team's highest receiving success rate (53.8%) and QB rating when targeted among players with at least 10 targets.

That efficiency makes sense considering the other weapons defenses have to account for. Warren and D.K. Metcalf also demand attention, while enormous TE Darnell Washington creates another matchup problem for opponents.

Freiermuth keeps finding favorable coverage, and Pittsburgh clearly trusts him in the red zone.

Steelers vs Buccaneers player prop: Emeka Egbuka 40+ receiving yards

The Over for Tampa Bay WR Emeka Egbuka's receiving prop is good up to 42+ yards. Egbuka has gone Over his receiving-yards prop in three of his five games this season and has become rookie QB Jalon Daniels' primary target.

He only had 38 receiving yards last week against the Dallas Cowboys, but Egbuka's nine targets were four more than the next closest Buccaneer. More importantly, Pittsburgh's defense is 29th in average yards of separation allowed per target, according to Pro.NFL.com.
