With two very capable backs, the Seahawks should dominate the trenches and run all over the Commanders.

The Washington Commanders hope the return of quarterback Jayden Daniels can pull the team out of a three-game tailspin when they host the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday Night Football in Week 9.

Seattle is fresh and healthy after a bye last weekend, and my early Seahawks vs. Commanders predictions expect the visitors to cover against a reeling Washington team.

Seahawks vs Commanders predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early SNF spread pick: Seahawks -3.5

-110 at FanDuel

The look-ahead line for this SNF showdown was Seattle Seahawks -3, but after the Washington Commanders’ loss to Kansas City on MNF, an extra half-point hook showed up on the official opener.

Given Daniels’ improvements and Terry McClaurin playing off an injury suffered Monday, this spread could tick back to a field goal later in the week. If you like Seattle, perhaps wait for that half-point hook to disappear.

The Seahawks are one of the best two-way teams in the NFL right now. Mike MacDonald’s defense is ranked Top 10 in many advanced metrics and the offense is surprisingly very efficient, with QB Sam Darnold powering a potent passing attack.

Washington has a short week to prepare for Seattle, and while the return of Daniels is an uptick for the offense, he faces a scary four-man front generating a ton of pressure and sacks.

That leaves the linebackers to spy or drop into coverage, with MacDonald blitzing at one of the lowest rates in the land. Daniels has struggled when under pressure so far in 2025, and a bum hamstring won’t help with his mobility in escaping defenders.

Early SNF total pick: Under 45.5

-110 at FanDuel

The Seahawks are doing a lot of things right in the first half of the schedule, but the inconsistency of the run game was an area of focus during the bye week.

MacDonald spoke to the media about refining the rushing attack and finding a balance between Zach Chabonnet and Kennneth Walker III. The Seahawks run at the second-highest rate in the league, handing off on almost half of all offensive snaps.

Washington has been beaten up on the ground during this losing skid, allowing 5.1 yards per carry over the past three outings. The Commanders gave up 148 yards to the Chiefs’ so-so rushing attack on Monday, and now this defense — which just spent 34 minutes on the field — has a quick turnaround in Week 9.

Seattle’s run-heavy approach and dominant defense could bottle up Daniels and the Commanders' attack and take the gas out of Kliff Kingsbury’s up-tempo RPO schemes.

The Seahawks' secondary has been a MASH unit in the first half of the season, but could have key pieces back for that pass defense in Week 9.
