The Panthers are rested and should roll against an Eagles team playing without Jalen Hurts, per our NFL expert.

The Panthers take on the Eagles off an early-season bye today, and my Panthers vs. Eagles predictions lean heavily on the visitors at Lincoln Financial Field.

See why Chubba Hubbard is part of my NFL picks ahead of this 1 p.m. ET clash on CBS from Philly on Sunday, Oct. 18.

 TOP Pick
Panthers vs Eagles prediction: Panthers -3.5

The spread has gotten two points wider since the start of the week, but I'd stick with the Carolina Panthers giving the points until 53% or until the moneyline falls below 60%.

This fell from a slight Panthers edge to a mismatch when Jalen Hurts was ruled out late in the week due to a blood clot, and he was later put on the injured reserve. When will Jalen Hurts return? There's still some uncertainty tied to that question, but the absence will now be at least four weeks.

Not much other Philadelphia Eagles injury news went the team’s way either. Saquon Barkley (hamstring) still hasn’t practiced, and DeVonta Smith (hamstring/toe) was limited on Thursday. Barkley was later ruled out too, but Smith will play after returning to practice in full on Friday.

The Panthers, meanwhile, got back injured receiver Jalen Coker, who practiced fully after missing the last game. Trevor Etienne will also return from opening the year on injured reserve.

Offensive tackle Taylor Moton was also activated from IR and might play, as a Carolina offense that ranks fifth in yards per play and sixth in passing EPA gets more of a boost.

Covers COVERS INTEL: The Eagles' offense ranks 30th in the NFL in EPA per play and 31st in success rate. The Titans are the only team to score less this season, and all of that was when they had Hurts at QB. Bryce Young completed more passes in the last two games (55) than Philly's new starter Tanner McKee has in his three-year NFL career (54).

Panthers vs Eagles combo

The Panthers scored 37 points against the Bears, whose defense ranks four spots better than the Eagles, and 34 against the Falcons, who are 10 spots better. Philadelphia ranks 22nd in EPA/play on defense and 22nd on defensive success rate.

The Panthers are 10th in the league in red zone touchdown percentage, cashing in at a rate seven percentage points higher than last season. So look for Carolina to get an early six.

The total has dropped two points since the Hurts news broke, which probably still is too high. Philadelphia isn’t going to score enough to do its part to get this game Over.

Panthers vs Eagles combo

  • Panthers -3.5
  • Under 39.5
  • Panthers score first

Panthers vs Eagles touchdown scorer: Chuba Hubbard

The Eagles rank 19th in the league in rushing yards and rushing touchdowns allowed. They are also 27th in the league in time of possession and were on the wrong end of a 36-minute to 24-minute possession deficit against Jacksonville last week.

It isn’t likely to improve without Hurts and Barkley — the only Eagles to gain more than 55 rushing yards in a game this year. Look for the Panthers to run the ball, especially late, and for Chuba Hubbard to score.

If you want a better payoff, backup AJ Dillon at 19% is also worth a play.

Panthers vs Eagles player prop: Bryce Young 2+ TD passes

Young and the Panthers both lead the NFL in passing, and the quarterback has been going deep successfully more than at any time in his career.

He has 17 completions of 20+ yards through four games—he had 39 all last year. He also has multiple touchdown passes in three of his four games this season, just the second time he’s had a stretch like that in his four-year NFL career.

The Eagles have given up multiple touchdown passes to three of the five quarterbacks they’ve faced, including Case Keenum, and 300+ yards to two of them.
