With a greater focus on RB De'Von Achane, the Dolphins are finding more success. This will carry over into their encounter with the Jets in Week 14.

The Miami Dolphins will look to extend their three-game winning streak when they visit the New York Jets in Week 14.

New York is also coming off a win, but Miami’s recent play has me picking the visitors to cover in my early Dolphins vs. Jets predictions.

Let’s take a look at how bettors should approach the early lines for this matchup in my free NFL picks on Sunday, December 7.

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early Dolphins vs Jets spread pick: Dolphins -2.5

-110 at FanDuel

At 1-6 after seven games, the Miami Dolphins looked dead in the water as one of the NFL's bigger disappointments. But Miami has since won four of five, and while it remains far out of contention for a playoff spot, head coach Mike McDaniel is at least off the hot seat.

The Dolphins looked most impressive in a 30-13 win over the Buffalo Bills on November 9, but this run has shown a level of consistency Miami lacked earlier in the season. The defense is playing well, allowing only 16.2 points per game over the past five, while Tua Tagovailoa has done just enough to power the offense alongside De'Von Achane

The New York Jets are playing better as well – they’ve won three of five after an 0-7 start – but their wins have come against some of the worst teams in the NFL.

Tyrod Taylor isn’t providing much at quarterback, the offense generally lacks weapons, and the defense is inconsistent, particularly after New York moved talent at the trade deadline.

The Jets can stay in this game on their home field, but with a line of under a field goal, I’m leaning toward taking the likely winner. That means backing the Dolphins on the spread.

Early Dolphins vs Jets total pick: Under 41.5

-122 at FanDuel

The Dolphins' resurgence has coincided with a marked change in approach.

Rather than playing and losing in shootouts, Miami is focusing on what works in the offense – namely, handing the ball to Achane and letting him do work – while clamping down on opposing passers, even if the run defense remains suspect.

As a result, the Dolphins have played to the Under in four straight, and haven’t hit the Over since a 31-6 loss to the Browns on October 19. Notably, even that result would have come in Under the total set for this encounter.

New York’s offense continues to sputter, occasionally showing life in recent wins but only averaging 20.5 PPG on the year. Breece Hall may well be able to run the ball against Miami’s front, but that alone won’t lead to big numbers on the scoreboard. And if both teams see the running game as their best approach, we could be looking at a moving clock with reduced possessions.

I’m leaning toward the Under here, but would be wary if the total drops another point or more.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
