Commanders come up short to Eagles in Week 1 at Lincoln Financial Field.

The Washington Commanders and Philadelphia Eagles begin their respective 2026 NFL seasons with an NFC East battle at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, Sept. 13, and the Eagles are 5.5-point home favorites.

My early Commanders vs. Eagles predictions and NFL picks expect Philly to cover, with the final score falling Under the number.

Early Commanders vs Eagles spread pick: Eagles -5.5

Kalshi probability: 50%

There’s too much Washington Commanders optimism in this line.

The Philadelphia Eagles are the more talented team on both sides of the ball, and I’m expecting this to be on display most in the trenches.

Philly is forecast to have the second-best offensive line in 2026, while Washington checks in 32nd without star Laremy Tunsil (triceps), per PFF

The Commanders defense also finished last in quarterback hurries per dropback, while the Eagles finished 14th in both sacks and pressure percentage despite blitzing at the third-lowest rate in the league.

Even with Washington’s upgrades on defense (Odafe Oweh, Javon Kinlaw, K'Lavon Chaisson, Charles Omenihu, and Tim Settle), I’m not expecting the new-look, 3-4 scheme to click immediately.

Early Commanders vs Eagles total pick: Under 44.5

Kalshi probability: 52%

An injury-riddled sophomore season went poorly for Commanders quarterback Jayden Daniels (60.6% completion percentage for 6.7 yards per attempt), and he’ll have his hands full on the road against a Philly defense that doesn’t need to blitz to generate pressure.

Daniels threw for a 3.8 aDoT and was pressured on 28.2% of his dropbacks during his only start at Lincoln Financial Field in 2024.

Flipping to Philly, while the offensive personnel is in place to hit the ground running, it should take time for new coordinator and playcaller Sean Mannion’s schematic overhaul to fully come to life.

As a result, I’m expecting the improved Washington defense to also do its part in keeping this total Under the number.
