Buccaneers vs Seahawks Predictions - Early Picks & Odds for Week 5

A rested Seahawks team coming off a TNF victory in Week 4 will have no trouble handling a traveling Buccaneers team dealing with a few key injuries. Still, Baker Mayfield will ensure scoring surges.

Judging by the latest NFL odds, the Seattle Seahawks and Tampa Bay Buccaneers remain outsiders in the race for the NFC crown, but they’ll have a chance to enhance their credentials when they square off at Lumen Field.

While both teams enter with a 3-1 mark and plenty of dynamic playmakers, my early Buccaneers vs Seahawks predictions give a slight edge to a healthier, fresher Seattle squad.

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early Buccaneers vs Seahawks spread pick: Seahawks -3

As usual, the NFC West picture is crowded through four weeks, but the Seattle Seahawks have thrown their hat in the ring in Year 2 under Mike Macdonald. They’ve put together three straight wins, and I like this spot for Seattle with the benefit of extra rest after a TNF victory in Arizona.

In contrast, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are coming off a draining 31-25 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles that featured the full Baker Mayfield experience – two TDs of 70+ yards and a costly late turnover – and this trip to the Pacific Northwest is a big test on the road without Mike Evans. The Bucs could also be missing Haason Reddick (concussion) and Jamel Dean (groin).

Tampa Bay couldn’t get going offensively until the second half on Sunday, and it gets no easier here against a snarling Seattle defense. On the other side of the ball, Sam Darnold is settling into his new home, and the hosts thumped the New Orleans Saints 44-13 in their last outing at Lumen Field.

The Seahawks are 3-1 in the past four meetings between these teams in Seattle. They needed overtime to clinch two of those victories, and again, I expect the hosts to make just enough plays to hold off Tampa Bay this weekend.

Early Buccaneers vs Seahawks total pick: Over 44.5

Even with Seattle’s impressive defense and Tampa Bay’s elite run-stuffers, this line feels too low. The Bucs have scored 20+ points in each of their last 10 games and finished with 25+ points in six of those outings, while the Seahawks are averaging 27.8 PPG this season.

The Over is 6-4 for both teams in their past 10 contests, and it’s been a no-sweat pick in Tampa Bay’s last two games. It was also an easy winning ticket in the two previous meetings between these squads in Seattle, and that’s where I’m leaning for this Week 5 battle.

Mayfield will take shots down the field – he gained 149 of his 289 passing yards on two completions against Philadelphia – and Emeka Egbuka has already flashed his big-play chops. Meanwhile, Seattle’s Jaxon Smith-Njigba is second in the NFL in receiving yards (402), and Darnold has completed 32 of his 44 passes across his last two contests, with three TDs and no picks.

Both defenses are allowing fewer than 90 rushing yards a game, so there may not be many big runs here. That could tilt the script toward more passing attacks, and the scoreboard should be ticking along at Lumen Field with a pair of in-form quarterbacks and two reliable kickers.
