Fantasy rookie WR leader market analysis
Carnell Tate | 40% implied probability
The Tennessee Titans turned heads when they decided to take OSU standout Carnell Tate with the No. 4 pick in this year's NFL draft, giving Cam Ward a receiver worth throwing to.
Now I'm not going to sit here and tell you Ward is a great quarterback, but I'd like to see your favorite QB's numbers in a season where he gets sacked 55 times, and his go-to WRs are Elic Ayomanor and Chimere Dike.
Tate instantly has WR1 upside; I mean, look at this depth chart...
As Jason Logan alluded to in his AFC South preview, the Titans are expected to be trailing for many games this season, and new OC Brian Daboll will put Ward's arm to the test. That means plenty of opportunity for Tate to rack up yardage, helping out fantasy owners along the way.
KC Concepcion | 38% implied probability
The former SEC standout has everything going for him, except that he plays for the Cleveland Browns... The Browns still have more question marks surrounding their QB than the Riddler has on his costume, and it's not like any of the options are even good.
Not only will he compete with rookie Denzel Boston (8%) for targets, but TE Harold Fannin Jr. also started to come into his own by the end of last year.
The bottom line is Cleveland is still going to suck, and its offense won't do Concepcion any favors. His WR1 upside is why he's priced this high, but I'll be damned before I start taking risks on any player tied to this piss ant organization.
De'Zhaun Stribling | 18% implied probability
The Mississippi product has turned heads following his preseason play, and his price to the best rookie WR has gone up because of it.
I ain't buying it.
Despite the San Francisco 49ers still looking like that dude from The SpongeBob episode where they're trying to sell chocolate (absolute peak btw), this is a team with championship aspirations.
They brought in injury-prone old man Mike Evans during the offseason, CMC will still eat up a ton of touches before one of his knees inevitably explodes, and Deebo Samuel is making his triumphant return after effing me over in fantasy last year during his season with the Commanders. Deebo Samuel more like DeeNO Samuel amirite?
ANYWAY, Stribling is getting these looks because Ricky Pearsall is also out for the season, and the 33rd pick is readily available (as long as his shoulder injury doesn't keep him out any longer).
Also, do you really want to put your trust in a guy who is slowly going to evaporate from the electrical substation next to the 49ers' training facility? I didn't think so.
The verdict
In case my glazing of Carnell Tate didn't make it obvious, I'm all in on the Buckeye himself. I loved him in college, and I'm going to love him in the NFL when he's not only cashing me tickets, but also winning me fantasy weeks. Tate to the moon!!
