The Pacific Northwest can be messy this time of year, which has everyone looking to the skies when the Seattle Seahawks host the rival San Francisco 49ers on Saturday night.

Ahead of kickoff, here’s my 49ers vs. Seahawks weather report as we break down how the elements could affect the NFL odds on January 17.

49ers vs Seahawks weather forecast

The forecast for Lumen Field shows clear skies and temperatures in the high 40s.

Winds will barely blow on Saturday night, with sustained breezes of 4 mph and gusts up to 9 mph moving NNE from end to end.

How 49ers vs Seahawks weather impacts the odds

Weather will have zero influence over the odds or action on the field Saturday night. Temperatures sit just short of 50 degrees, which isn’t too chilly for the California-based visitor.

Crowd noise is always something visitors have to battle at Lumen Field, with the infamous “12” making it impossible to hear calls — especially on crucial third and fourth-down tries. That type of distraction can lead to botched snaps, missed audible assignments, and delay-of-game or false-start penalties.

The San Francisco 49ers are one of the more disciplined teams in the league. The Niners have been flagged for only 14 false starts (fourth fewest) and four delay of game penalties heading into this Division Round matchup against the Seattle Seahawks

Kyle Shanahan is no stranger to the screams in Seattle and just came out of Philadelphia with a win, shutting up the always-disruptive Eagles fans.

I don’t see any betting markets offering an edge due to the weather. The crowd noise will be the most impactful environmental factor, namely in third and fourth-down situations.

San Francisco boasts the highest third-down success rate in the NFL (50%), including a 6-for-11 performance on third downs in Philly last weekend. The 49ers also went 7-for-14 on third down and 2-for-2 on fourth down during their Week 1 trip to Lumen Field.

However, the 49ers are without standout tight end George Kittle. The veteran has been a key part of both the run/pass blocking and the receiving game, particularly on third down. Over his career, Kittle has averaged 12.1 yards per reception on third down, with 23 of his 52 total touchdowns coming on third-down plays.

The Seahawks defense is rated among the best in the league, leveraging key spots like third and fourth down. Seattle allows foes to move the chains on just 32% of third downs (best in the NFL) and enjoys a 51% opponent success rate on fourth down (10th lowest).

Bettors will want to watch how Brock Purdy and the Niners offense operate on those key downs, and look to any value on or against the 49ers in the live odds markets.
