My 49ers vs Buccaneers predictions and NFL picks have the 49ers covering the spread, with the Bucs’ mounting injuries finally counting against them. Tune in with kickoff at 4:25 pm on Sunday, October 13, and you can tune in on CBS.

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early 49ers vs Buccaneers spread pick: 49ers +3

Both the San Francisco 49ers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been involved in some close games this season, with every single one of their games seeing the team finish within a score of the other.

The 49ers have had numerous injuries this season, and we’re still unsure when we will see Brock Purdy back under center. There are potentially even question marks over whether we’ll see him rushed back into the team, with his deputy, Mac Jones, performing excellently. It was rumored in the 2021 NFL Draft that Kyle Shanahan wanted Jones to be their pick, and he certainly fits the offense well. The team is 3-0 with Jones throwing for 905 yards, six touchdowns, and just one interception.

The Bucs are finding ways to win games, and there’s arguably nobody in the NFL you’d want under center more than Baker Mayfield in a two-minute drill. However, the Bucs can’t keep getting into situations when they need their quarterback to rescue the game in the final minutes.

With both teams 3-2 ATS, both having only one defeat, and both teams having that defeat in Week Four, it’s coming down to who we trust more. The 49ers are that team; they’re two spots behind the Bucs in defensive DVOA but rank a full nine places higher offensively. They have the superior play caller, and in Mac Jones, they have somebody who seems efficient, even if he’s not flashy.

Early 49ers vs Buccaneers total pick: Over 47.5

This game has real shootout potential, with both teams capable of putting up some serious points on offense, and with neither defense amongst the league’s elite. Through five games this season, the Bucs have averaged 27 points scored per game, with the 49ers below that with 21.2. Although that number increases by a point and a half to 22.7 with Jones playing quarterback.

The Bucs come into this as the favorite, and the Over has landed in their one other game as a home favorite. It’s also 2-0 when they’ve been playing at Raymond James Stadium.

Meanwhile, the 49ers have seen the Over go 2-0 in games against opposition outside of their division, as well as going 1-0 when they’ve been an underdog. The Over has also come out on top when they’ve been playing on the road, with Over backers going 2-1 in those three games.

This past Sunday, we saw the 49ers allow the Rams to score 23 points, while the Bucs managed to let the Seahawks score 35 with Sam Darnold torching the defense for 341 yards and four touchdowns. Rookie Emeka Egbuka had 163 receiving yards for Tampa Bay and scored his fifth TD of the season, while Kendrick Bourne has been a real chain mover for the 49ers, putting up 142 yards last time out, and with Christian McCaffrey being a real playmaker for the offense.
