Football fans in Provo were wondering how this BYU Cougars season was going to go after QB Jake Retzlaff left the program. Well, their savior has come in the form of freshman Bear Bachmeier.

Bachmeier has been everything BYU could have hoped for, leading the team to a perfect 4-0 record at this point in the season. So, it’s no surprise that he highlights my SGP for Friday night’s matchup against the West Virginia Mountaineers, along with tight end Carsen Ryan.

Our best West Virginia vs BYU SGP for Week 6

Kalani Sitake has the BYU Cougars off to another great start, sitting at 4-0 heading into this game. It's something many thought unlikely after QB Jake Retzlaff was suspended from the team before transferring to Tulane.

But freshman Bear Bachmeier has stepped in and been everything that the Cougars have needed this season. Bachmeier has thrown for 697 yards while completing 68% of his passes with six touchdowns and just as important, no interceptions. He is averaging 200 passing yards per game in three games vs. FBS opponents,

This week, he’ll face a West Virginia Mountaineers team that ranks 78th in defensive success rate on dropbacks and 97th in opponent yards per attempt.

On top of that, the Mountaineers rank 129th in quality drive rate, meaning they are not extending drives and giving opponents more possessions. That means more opportunities to rack up passing yards for Bachmeier.

Bachmeier has also been a threat on the ground for the Cougars, rushing for 163 yards through four games. He has been BYU’s preferred option once they get into the red zone, and has found the end zone four times already this season. Let’s take him to score once again, this time vs. a West Virginia team that ranks 70th in EPA/rush.

I like Bachmeier to toss a couple of scores through the air on Friday night as well. One of his favorite targets has become tight end Carson Ryan, who has caught 12 balls for 192 yards and two scores this season. Let’s back Ryan to get No. 3 in this matchup.
