An in-state battle will welcome us when Texas A&M hosts UTSA.

The Roadrunners will once again have high expectations after returning the entirety of the offense that made waves last season; however, they'll have serious questions to answer defensively.

Meanwhile, Texas A&M will be looking to leap forward with a full season of healthy quarterback play from Marcell Reed.

My UTSA vs. Texas A&M predictions break it down here as I bring you my college football picks for the matchup between the two teams on Saturday, August 30th.

UTSA vs Texas A&M prediction

UTSA vs Texas A&M best bet: UTSA Team Total Over 16.5 points (-115)

I don't think the Texas A&M Aggies' secondary has improved since last season. Let me state it plainly.

The Aggies' passing defense was heavily criticized last year, primarily due to the explosive plays it allowed. A&M finished in the bottom 35% of college football in pass explosiveness allowed and was mostly average from an EPA standpoint.

That's not good enough in the SEC, and I haven't seen anything from a transfer or developmental perspective that suggests it will change.

That leads me to the UTSA Roadrunners offense, which is a strong and proven group. Quarterback Owen McCown impressed last season with a completion rate over 60%, more than 3,000 yards, and 20-plus touchdowns.

Nearly all of that offense returns, and the backfield has the versatility to contribute in the passing game, featuring players with pedigree from programs like USC and LSU. Beyond that, UTSA has reliable wide receivers in Devin McCuin and Willie McCoy, both of whom averaged double-digits per reception.

There are plenty of unknowns in this matchup, but the UTSA offense is not one of them. In fact, it's the most known commodity here, and I'll back it to score—whether in a tight game or a blowout.

UTSA vs Texas A&M same-game parlay

The main story of this matchup is that both defenses will struggle, but there are better ways to capture that in a betting sense than a standard Over.

This parlay captures that. UTSA is well-coached and has the talent to make plays; however, the gulf in quality will become more apparent as the game progresses.

Our deep-ball SGP: Reed's Way!

RB Rueben Owens is healthy after flashing last season, earning all-freshman honors before being injured. That means we'll likely see plenty of volume from him in this one, and he'll be able to take advantage of the trenches advantage that the Aggies will own.

Dual-threat QB Marcell Reed will be able to do the same against a suspect defense, so both are two of my favorite bets to find the end zone here.
