The Sam Houston Bearkats are running out of chances to get into the win column. With five games left to go, their next opportunity comes against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs on Friday night.

After cruising to a 4-1 record — their only loss to powerhouse LSU — the Bulldogs have dropped two in a row. Yet, the books have them as heavy 16.5-point favorites in the college football odds.

Our Sam Houston vs. Louisiana Tech predictions are riding the chalk until the Bearkats prove otherwise.

Sam Houston vs Louisiana Tech prediction

Sam Houston vs Louisiana Tech best bet: Louisiana Tech -16.5 (-115)

Save for a 29-27 loss to the Jacksonville State Gamecocks on October 9, Sam Houston has shown little resilience. In fact, that loss via a last-second field goal is the only game that has a margin of defeat of fewer than 17 points.

Sam Houston was most recently doubled up by the UTEP Miners 35-17, sending the home team to its seventh straight loss to start the year.

The Bearkats are Conference USA’s lowest-scoring team, putting up a paltry 17 points per game, while ranking last in points allowed, with opponents dropping an average of 38.9 points on them.

Meanwhile, Louisiana Tech boasts the conference’s top defense, holding teams to 18.7 points per game. LA Tech should also find some offensive success in this one, facing a Sam Houston program that is surrendering 272.4 yards per game through the air.

With the Bearkats struggling on both sides of the ball, the Bulldogs are poised for a dominant performance.

Sam Houston vs Louisiana Tech same-game parlay

Even against Sam Houston, Louisiana Tech’s passing game isn’t about to go gangbusters. Blake Baker has thrown only four touchdowns all year and hasn’t recorded a multi-TD passing game this season.

Sam Houston vs Louisiana Tech SGP

  • Louisiana Tech -16.5
  • Blake Baker Under 1.5 passing touchdowns

Our deep-ball SGP: Bulldogs Bark

Devin Gandy has seen an uptick in production of late, topping his 44.5 receiving line set for this one in back-to-back games. He should eat against the Bearkats' leaky pass defense.

We’ll wrap this lotto SGP with Sam Houston QB Hunter Watson, who has thrown for less than 165 yards in each of his last two conference matchups, and I like the trend to continue against a stout Bulldogs secondary.

Sam Houston vs Louisiana Tech SGP

  • Louisiana Tech -16.5
  • Blake Baker Under 1.5 passing touchdowns
  • Devin Gandy Over 44.5 receiving yards
  • Hunter Watson Under 174.5 passing yards

Sam Houston vs Louisiana Tech odds
