Two SEC teams that met earlier this year will meet again in the Sugar Bowl and quarterfinals of the College Football Playoff when the Ole Miss Rebels and Georgia Bulldogs collide on Thursday.

My early Mississippi vs. Georgia predictions and college football picks expect the Bulldogs to come out on top in this Sugar Bowl.

Early Mississippi vs Georgia spread pick: Georgia -6.5

These two teams met in mid-October in Athens, a game the Georgia Bulldogs won 43-35. That gave the Mississippi Rebels their only loss of the season despite being in control of the game until Georgia ripped off a 17-0 fourth quarter to win.

The Rebels looked great in their first game without Lane Kiffin, dominating Tulane 41-10 in Round 1. However, they had some bumps along the way, with both Trinidad Chambliss and Kewan Lacy going down with injuries. While Chambliss should be fine, Lacy is still a question mark.

Georgia shut down Lacy in their last matchup, but he still scored twice. If he's out or not 100%, I have a tough time believing this Rebels offense will be able to put up enough points to keep pace.

Since that first matchup, the Bulldogs have not allowed more than 21 points and have allowed a total of 29 points in their last four games combined. That includes games against Texas, Georgia Tech, and Alabama.

With an injured Lacy and no Kiffin, I have a tough time believing the Rebels will be able to put up anywhere near the offensive output they logged in that October clash.

Early Mississippi vs Georgia total pick: Under 56.5

While these two teams combined for 78 points in October, this game should not follow suit. Both defenses have improved, and there have been some major changes with Mississippi that should hurt their offensive production.

Georgia has cashed the Under in 10 of its last 15 games and each of their last four games. Mississippi has done so in four of its last five.

The Bulldogs rank ninth in the country, allowing only 15.9 points per game. The Rebels rank 22nd, allowing 19.3 per contest. Since their matchup this season, the Bulldogs have allowed only 11.7 points per game, and the Rebels have allowed only 15.5 points per contest.

Without Kiffin and an injured Lacy, I don't see Georgia allowing Mississippi to put up anywhere near the production they put up last time. I also expect interim head coach Pete Golding to prevent Georgia from scoring north of 40 this time around.
