LSU vs Mississippi Same-Game Parlay for College Football Week 5

Brian Kelly has gotten the best of Lane Kiffin in recent years, and Douglas Farmer doesn’t expect that to change ahead of Saturday’s marquee SEC showdown.

Few people enjoy antagonizing someone as much as Mississippi Rebels head coach Lane Kiffin enjoys antagonizing the most veteran coach in the SEC.

Without Nick Saban around anymore, Kiffin turns his eyes to LSU Tigers head coach Brian Kelly.

My LSU vs. Mississippi predictions and college football picks expect those choices to backfire on Kiffin on Saturday, September 27.

Our best LSU vs Mississippi SGP for Week 5

Everyone wants to bet this Over. Lane Kiffin told them to on social media because his daughter is dating an LSU linebacker.

Who cares?

That is Kiffin’s shtick.

The reality is, Brian Kelly has beaten Kiffin twice, and in both instances, the Under cashed. Now, LSU is better defined by its defense than at any point in Kelly’s Baton Rouge tenure, so he should lean on it even more.

That has worked so far, with the Tigers’ three FBS games all going Under their totals, and not by a small amount.

Mississippi quarterback Trinidad Chambliss has looked the part so far, but it’s usually around a player’s third genuine appearance that opposing defensive coordinators see why a backup quarterback was a backup to begin with.

If LSU’s Blake Baker sees that, expect the ball to be taken out of Chambliss’s hands.

Fortunately for the Rebels, Kewan Lacy has cleared this prop in three of four games this season. Unfortunately for Mississippi, the running game is not how Kiffin has designed this team to win.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
