The Kentucky Wildcats continue their rough SEC stretch as they travel to Athens on Saturday to do battle with the Georgia Bulldogs.

The Wildcats are trying to find some kind of spark on offense, but doing so against a wounded Bulldogs team will be difficult. Kirby Smart’s boys will want to erase the bad taste after losing at home to Alabama.

Here are my early Kentucky vs. Georgia predictions and college football picks for Saturday, October 4.

Kentucky vs Georgia predictions

Here are our early thoughts on the spread and total for this week’s game. We will have a full game preview (with a best bet and SGP) later in the week.

Early Kentucky vs Georgia spread pick: Georgia -21.5

-110 at FanDuel

People point at the Kentucky Wildcats giving the Georgia Bulldogs some tough games in the past, and that’s valid, but those games haven’t taken place in Athens.

Georgia won 51-13 in the last meeting between the hedges and has won by 17+ points in six straight visits by the Wildcats. The average margin of victory in that span has been 28.5 points, with the Dawgs winning by at least three touchdowns on five occasions.

Now you have a Kentucky team that's among the worst in college football at throwing the ball, taking on a Georgia team fresh off a frustrating loss to Alabama. It’s gonna get ugly.

The Wildcats have already changed quarterbacks, but it’s mattered little. Cutter Boley committed three turnovers in the loss at South Carolina and was constantly under pressure and hesitant about who to throw to. The hostile environment had him rattled, and it’ll get worse against the Georgia defense.

Kentucky will want to run the ball, but even Alabama found that tough. Georgia ranks Top 10 in explosive run rate against and in EPA/rush. This defense is allowing just 2.5 line yards per rush and 0.6 second-level yards.

For Georgia, this is a game where Gunner Stockton will find success. Kentucky ranks 73rd in pass success rate and 78th in EPA/pass, is creating next to no havoc, and has given up far too many explosive pass plays.

The Dawgs have won five of the last six home matchups by at least three touchdowns. The only outlier came when the Wildcats had Will Levis at quarterback. Take Georgia to cover.

Early Kentucky vs Georgia total pick: Under 50.5

A total of 50.5 points is often a tricky one, and that’s no different here. However, I’m leaning Under, because I’m not sure how Kentucky will score.

Georgia’s been getting scored on with regular success, but that’s because teams have put up strong passing outputs. Kentucky’s offense simply isn’t built to do that, nor is it how the Wildcats will play if they have any hopes of keeping the game close.

The Bulldogs have been terrific against the run, and Mark Stoops will be certain to set his team up to run the ball as much as possible. Successful or not, it will be imperative to prevent the Georgia defense from coming after Boley.

On the other side, Georgia may find some trouble running the ball as well. The Wildcats have done well against the run, ranking 30th in EPA/rush and preventing explosive runs. South Carolina gained just 3.7 yards per carry on 48 runs on Saturday.

The Dawgs have a trip to Auburn next week, followed by a visit from Mississippi. I can see Georgia getting up by a large margin early, and then just seeing out the game with backups to let people rest. That and Kentucky’s desire to commit to the run game should keep this total low.
