Iowa faces a difficult short-week trip to Seattle, where line movement is backing Washington despite the Hawkeyes’ ranking. Geoff Clark targets the side, total, and first-quarter market.

Friday night’s Iowa vs. Washington prediction pits a ranked Hawkeyes squad against a 3-2 Huskies team getting plenty of respect from the market.

Washington is laying 3.5 at Husky Stadium at 9 p.m. ET, while Iowa arrives 4-1 on a short week.

My college football picks for Oct. 9 are siding with the sharps and laying the points with the Huskies at home.

 TOP PICK
Who will win Iowa vs Washington: Washington -3.5

I'll follow the line movement and trade Washington to -4.

Iowa are 20th in the AP Poll and 3-2 against the spread (ATS), while Washington is unranked and 1-4 ATS, yet the market is moving toward the Huskies.

This is a brutal spot for Iowa, which now travels to Seattle on a short week after back-to-back battles against Michigan and Ohio State. The Hawkeyes lost the combined first-down battle by 15 across those two games and were outgained 6.4 to 4.7 in yards per play.

Those results were better than the underlying performances, and this matchup doesn't offer much relief. Iowa wants to run, but Washington hasn't allowed an opponent to average more than 3.8 yards per carry this season.

Covers COVERS INTEL: Iowa starting QB Hank Brown is questionable for Friday with a shoulder injury, and head coach Kirk Ferentz told reporters this week they can't count on him playing.

Iowa vs Washington Over/Under pick: Under 41.5

The Under 41.5 is tradable down to 40.5, with both defenses holding a clear edge over the opposing offenses.

According to GameOnPaper.com, the Hawkeyes are 85th nationally in adjusted EPA per play on offense and seventh on defense, while the Huskies rank 107th offensively and 27th defensively.

Washington also grades in the seventh percentile nationally in late-down offensive success rate, while Iowa is 22nd. Neither offense creates many explosive plays, so sustained drives will be necessary.

That becomes a problem near the goal line, too, as both teams rank outside the Top 85 in offensive red-zone touchdown rate.

Iowa vs Washington combo

The market is telling us something with money coming in on unranked Washington against ranked Iowa, so I want the Huskies in this combo without having to lay the points.

Using Washington moneyline instead of -3.5 increases the win probability and reduces the risk while keeping exposure to the same matchup edge.

I’ll pair it with Under 41.5 and first-quarter Under 7.5, two angles that fit these inefficient, defense-driven offenses.
