There’s a ranked matchup at the Coliseum this weekend as the No. 17 USC Trojans host the No. 21 Iowa Hawkeyes in Big Ten play.

Iowa vs USC prediction

Iowa vs USC best bet: Kamari Moulton Over 74.5 rushing yards (-114)

Kamari Moulton has been a steady producer for this Iowa Hawkeyes offense, racking up 75+ rushing yards in five straight games. Despite this, the books have decided to set his rushing yardage prop at 74.5 in an advantageous matchup against the USC Trojans.

The Trojans have yet to field a difference-making defense in Lincoln Riley’s tenure. While this year’s unit isn’t as dreadful as some of his others, USC still ranks just 96th in success rate and allows 5.5 yards per play.

The biggest area of concern is a rush defense that checks in at 86th in EPA per rush and 126th in rushing success rate allowed. The front seven isn’t getting enough push (125th in defensive line yards), which has led to six straight opponents achieving 100+ yards on the ground.

Moulton is coming off a 23-carry, 87-yard performance against Oregon in which he reestablished that he’s the key skill player on the offense. He’s proven capable of handling a consistent workload, seeing 15+ touches in six consecutive games.

The last three starting running backs to face the Trojans have averaged 170.3 rushing yards, making this a fade spot for the defense.

Iowa vs USC same-game parlay

USC has been so potent offensively (second in EPA per play) that even a tough Iowa defense (17th) will struggle to get stops consistently.

Lincoln Riley likely doesn’t want to get stuck “playing Iowa’s game”, so he’ll still look to air things out with quarterback Jayden Maiava and his star receivers: Makai Lemon and Ja’Kobi Lane. The former has 16 touchdown receptions in his last 21 games, making any plus-money price to find the end zone an appealing offer.

Our deep-ball SGP: Hawkeyes fight

This game projects to be close as Iowa’s defense is similar in caliber to USC’s offense, and the same can be said about Iowa’s offense and USC’s defense. There isn’t enough separation to expect the Hawkeyes, who are 6-2-1 ATS, to lose by the widest margin of the season.
