Week 4 is when conference play really starts to get going, which means real Heisman hopefuls start to separate themselves from the pack.
The Heisman Trophy odds could see a shakeup today with some great matchups on the schedule this week. Some of the biggest include Carson Beck and Miami hosting Florida, and John Mateer and Oklahoma taking on Auburn.

Heisman Trophy odds: Matchups to watch
Texas Tech vs. Utah
The game of the week takes place at the raucous Rice-Eccles Stadium in Salt Lake City, where the 3-0 Utah Utes host the 3-0 Texas Tech Red Raiders.
This is a matchup of the two betting favorites for the Big 12 conference title, and the winner will be set up well to get to the championship game.
Utah always has a solid defense, and this year is no different. But what could propel the Utes to the College Football Playoff is Devon Dampier and the offense.
Dampier and offensive coordinator Jason Beck both came over from New Mexico and are now working their magic in Salt Lake City.
The dual-threat QB is completing 73% of his passes for 628 yards with seven touchdowns and no interceptions while adding 198 yards and a score on the ground.
If Dampier can put up some good numbers against a very talented Red Raiders defensive line and earn a win for the Utes, you can expect his Heisman odds to take a leap.
Auburn vs. Oklahoma
Of course, we have to check in on Heisman co-favorite John Mateer. The Oklahoma Sooners QB will play his first SEC matchup with the Auburn Tigers coming to town.
Mateer enters this matchup leading the conference with 944 passing yards with five touchdowns while adding another 161 yards and four scores on the ground.
While we’ve already seen Mateer perform against strong competition in the win over Michigan, seeing him do it against an SEC opponent could really separate him from the pack in both the eyes of the Heisman voters and the oddsmakers.
Auburn’s defensive numbers are solid heading into this matchup, but they allowed Baylor QB Sawyer Robertson to throw for 419 yards with three touchdowns and no picks. So, Mateer will have the chance to improve on those already impressive passing numbers in this matchup.
Florida vs. Miami
The question with Miami was always going to be, what version of Carson Beck were we going to get? Because if Beck plays like he did in 2023, the Miami Hurricanes would be a championship contender.
The answer is, this might be the best version of Beck yet.
Beck is leading the nation in completion percentage at 79.3% while throwing for 812 yards with seven touchdowns and also has one rushing score. And I expect Beck to keep cooking against a Florida Gators team that is in shambles heading into this matchup.
The Gators' strength is their defense, but Beck’s accuracy, combined with the balance the run game provides, makes the Canes tough to stop.
And we’ve already seen him do it against a strong defense, going 20-for-30 for 205 yards with two touchdowns and no picks vs. Notre Dame in their opener.
Beck checks a lot of Heisman boxes. A quarterback on a national championship contender is always going to be in the conversation.
Heisman darkhorse: Raiola looms
Dylan Raiola has a chance to live up to the hype that came along with him when he first committed to the Nebraska Cornhuskers.
He has quietly shown a jump in his development this season. The Cornhuskers' star QB has thrown for 829 yards at a solid 8.8 yards per attempt with eight touchdowns, and most importantly, no interceptions.
It’s not hyperbole to say that today’s game vs. Michigan is the biggest of his career. The Wolverines may not be the team they were a few years ago, but this would be a marquee win for a program that has dying for one for years.
And Raiola will have a chance to be successful here as the Michigan defense has struggled against the pass. They've given up 200 passing yards to New Mexico and 270 to Mateer and Oklahoma.
After this game, the schedule really opens up for the Cornhuskers, with the only really tough matchup being a trip to Happy Valley to take on Penn State on November 22. So, there are plenty of opportunities for Raiola to stack wins and put up stats.
If Raiola can lead Nebraska to a win today, there’s no way he’s +5500 to win the Heisman tomorrow.
Dylan Raiola’s current Heisman odds: +5500
