It has been 15 years since the once-vaunted Clemson Tigers football program has seen expectations this low.

Clemson went 7-5 in 2025, its second straight season below the double-digit win threshold that defined the Dabo Swinney dynasty, and finished well short of a 9.5-win total for the second time in five years. The market has recalibrated, dropping the 2026 total to its lowest number since 2011 as books price in a program still searching for its post-dynasty identity.

Here’s a look at the recent history of Clemson win totals, along with predictions on whether the Tigers will surpass or fall short of their 2026 number of 7.5:

Fresh off their worst season since 2010, the betting markets are way down on Clemson this year. I’m buying low. They still have Top 25 talent and Dabo Swinney has traditionally performed better in the underdog role. I have bet Over 7.5 wins.

Last year’s Clemson team was one of the biggest underachievers in recent college football history, and this year’s team is being underrated as a result. Dabo Swinney’s program has one of the weakest schedules in the Power 4 - No. 101 in SOS (.494) - and the Tigers return a plethora of future top 100 picks on both sides of the ball.

While Swinney is leaning on a new old offensive coordinator in Chad Morris and breaking in a new QB (likely Christopher Vizzina), the Tigers have one of the top receiver duos in the country (Bryant Wesco Jr. and T.J. Moore). They also have a defense led by a trio of All-American candidates in Will Heldt, Sammy Brown, and Ashton Hampton. Swinney even leaned on the transfer portal more than ever and added a half-dozen potential impact players.

Colby Marchio

Off the bat, I have to come clean: I am a MASSIVE Dabo Swinney hater. I think he is one of the most overrated coaches in college football. He lucked into an incredible run of elite talent, and now look at where Clemson is.

The quarterback position has been the program's biggest issue throughout the 2020s. I will leave you with a quote from the ESPN College Football Preview: "The difference between Clemson's dominance in the 2010s and its struggles in the 2020s has been at the quarterback position, and (Christopher) Vizzina is certainly a gamble."

The defense should be great, as usual, but I see Clemson finishing with another seven-win season.

🔑 Key takeaways

  • Near-even overall, but results cluster by era: Clemson has gone Over its win total nine times in 18 graded seasons, against eight Unders and one Push, a nearly balanced record but one that obscures a sharp divide between two distinct periods.

  • Nine consecutive Overs from 2011 through 2019: During the heart of the Dabo Swinney dynasty, Clemson cleared its win total in nine straight graded seasons; that's the longest Over streak in the country. The market repeatedly underestimated the Tigers during this run, even as totals climbed toward double digits.

  • Four Unders in the last five graded seasons: Since 2021, Clemson has gone Under its win total in 2021, 2022, 2023, and 2025, with only a push in 2024 breaking the pattern. The program has not cleared a win total in any graded season since 2019, and that six-year drought frames the 2026 number squarely.

How Clemson win totals are priced

You would have to go all the way back to 2011 to find the last instance of a Clemson regular-season win total below 8 – and the edge on the Over isn't exactly a slam dunk.

With the O7.5 trading at a modest -130 (carrying an implied probability of 56.5%), it's closer to a toss-up than most fans and experts might expect. Or perhaps pragmatism has set in for a program that made the College Football Playoff every year from 2015-19.

The Tigers have a challenging schedule even by their standards, though they'll open the season with five home games in a seven-game stretch. The season opener against Lane Kiffin and LSU should be doozy, and they'll be challenged at home against Virginia Tech and Miami.

The Clemson conference win total is set at 5.5, with the Over at +134 and the Under at -160.

Did You Know?

The Tigers are an unimaginable 1-10 ATS in their last 11 games with a rest advantage, dating back to the start of the 2021 season.
