CFB Week 5 preview with Andrew Caley and Douglas Farmer

Arizona vs Iowa State best bet

Under 48.5 (-110 at FanDuel)

Arizona is currently tied for second in scoring defense in the Big 12, allowing just 8.7 points per game, with Iowa State is not far behind at 14.3 points allowed per contest (seventh in the conference). Both programs have also gone Under the total in consecutive games.

Western Kentucky vs Missouri State best bet

Western Kentucky -4.5 (-110 at FanDuel)

Western Kentucky should be bet nearly anytime it's listed as a one-score favorite. The Hilltoppers throw the ball too often for the numbers not to eventually break their way in those moments, especially when facing a Missouri State defense that ranks No. 127 in EPA per dropback against.

Oregon vs Penn State best bet

Kaytron Allen Over 68.5 rushing yards (-114 at FanDuel)

No one likes throwing against Oregon. Nor should they: The Ducks’ defense ranks No. 3 in the country in dropback success rate against and has not given up many explosive passes this season. As a result, opponents run against the Ducks at the second-highest rate in the country, 22.1% more often than would be expected from an average team in a given game state — but the thing is, Penn State will be okay with that.

See our full analysis and Ducks/Nittany Lions SGP in our Oregon vs. Penn State predictions.

Alabama vs Georgia best bet

Ryan Williams Over 62.5 receiving yards (-114 at FanDuel)

We just watched Tennessee’s Joey Aguilar throw it all over the yard against the Bulldogs, torching them for 371 yards and four touchdowns with his top two receivers going for 177 yards and 97 yards, respectively. Georgia enters this week ranked 79th in defensive success rate on dropbacks — that will mean problems against a guy as talented as Williams.

Appalachian State vs Boise State best bet

Appalachian State +17.5 (-110 at FanDuel)

App State is coming off a bye and they're better than their records and stats indicate, plus Boise State has a big look-ahead game next week at Notre Dame.

Louisiana State vs UTEP best bet

UTEP +4 (-110 at FanDuel)

Louisiana Tech has had some phony finals, as it's been outgained by 33 yards per game so far, despite being 3-1 SU and 4-0 ATS.

BYU vs Colorado best bet

Colorado +6.5 (+100 at FanDuel)

The Cougars very well may be a quality football team, but that doesn’t mean we can expect them to go on the road in a conference opener and win with ease. BYU QB Bear Bachmeier may be averaging 8.2 yards per attempt, but he’s still a true freshman quarterback on the road against a quality defensive coordinator in Robert Livingston.
