Imagine needing the college football program you wagered on to win double-digit games in a season. Now, envision betting on a team where 10 wins still isn't enough.
This was the sobering reality for anyone taking the Over on Alabama's win totals in the late-2010s; while the preseason win total has mercifully come down in recent years, you'll still need the Crimson Tide to be one of the top teams in the nation for any Over to cash.
Here's a look at the recent history of Alabama win totals, along with predictions on whether the Crimson Tide will surpass or fall short of their 2026 number of 8.5:

I like the upside of new quarterback Keelon Russell so much that I gave him out as my favorite Heisman long-shot. I think the schedule is favorable. The Crimson Tide do not play Texas, Oklahoma or Ole Miss. They also host both Georgia and Texas A&M and my ratings project them to be favored in 10 games.

Regardless of what you think about Kalen DeBoer, he knows how to recruit and develop QBs. Next up is Keelon Russell, and the former No. 2 recruit’s electric skill set is poised to carry Alabama to a 19th straight season of 9+ regular season wins.
The Crimson Tide bring back one of the best linemen in the country (Michael Carroll) and one of the most talented receivers (Ryan Coleman-Williams), if he can clean up the drops. The Tide also landed a top 20 portal class to help fill holes with experience along the O-line.
Meanwhile, the defense should once again be among the best. Kane Wommack’s unit is No. 32 in returning production (61%) with All-American candidates in Bray Hubbard, Zabien Brown, and Yhonzae Pierre. It helps that Alabama’s schedule isn’t devastatingly tough compared to other SEC teams – it’s ranked No. 38 in SOS (.566).

It is so funny to me that, through two full seasons, Kalen DeBoer is 20-8 as the head coach of the Crimson Tide, yet his seat is always going to be warm until he wins a national title. As a New York Yankees fan, I respect it. Nothing matters unless you win. That is how it should be. You play to be the best. We do not gamble to lose, right?!?
The SEC is going to be loaded this year, as it always is, but I think Alabama's schedule sets up nicely for them to surprise a lot of people. They enter the season outside the preseason top 10 for the first time since I was in seventh grade in 2008. They host Georgia, so Bryant-Denny Stadium is going to be rocking. That is a game they have to have.
The Tide's toughest road test will come in Baton Rouge against Lane Kiffin and the Tigers. You know Kiffin is always looking for revenge against one of his former schools, so I expect that one to be a battle. Outside of those games, though, I think the rest of the schedule is very manageable for DeBoer and his boys. Even though Alabama got off to a slow start in 2025, DeBoer's teams have finished the season strong in back to back years.

🔑 Key takeaways
- Alabama has beaten its win total more often than not: Since 2006, the Tide have gone over their preseason win total in the majority of seasons, reinforcing how consistently high the program’s floor has been.
- The market has rarely been able to price Alabama high enough: Even in years with double-digit win totals, Alabama frequently exceeded expectations, particularly during its peak playoff-era runs.
- Pushes and narrow misses tell the story of modern Alabama: In recent years, outcomes have clustered tightly around the number, suggesting the market has essentially caught up to Alabama’s actual level.
How Alabama win totals are priced
If you're going to bet the Over on a Crimson Tide win total, you had better root hard for this team.
Alabama has rarely entered a season without sky-high expectations, and that reality is reflected in its annual win totals. For much of the past two decades, the Crimson Tide have opened in the 10-11.5 win range, leaving little margin for error even in strong seasons. That trend reached its acme from 2017-22, when Alabama's win total averaged just south of 11.5.
Alabama’s dominance coinciding with the peak of U.S. sports betting expansion resulted in legal sportsbooks adjusting accordingly (and aggressively). Lines tightened, juice increased, and the difference between a successful and unsuccessful season often came down to a single game. In recent years, that has made betting Alabama win totals less about identifying upside and more about judging whether expectations have finally outpaced reality.
That context is important when evaluating any preseason projections. Alabama’s win total is rarely “low”; rather, it’s a reflection of how consistently high the bar has been set, and how difficult it has become to clear it. That said, you're still getting an intriguing -125 on the O8.5, with the Under priced at +105.
Alabama is the only school in NCAA history to string together 16 consecutive seasons with 10+ victories, doing so from 2008–23. The Crimson Tide are also the all-time leaders in 10+ win seasons with a whopping 43.
