The West Virginia Mountaineers will look to play themselves back into NCAA Tournament contention as they host the BYU Cougars on Saturday night.

The Cougars have one of the most explosive offenses in the country, and I’m backing them to cover tonight in my BYU vs. West Virginia predictions below.

Let’s take a closer look at tonight’s game as I reveal my free college basketball picks for February 28.

BYU vs West Virginia prediction

BYU vs West Virginia best bet: BYU -2 (-116)

While the line on this game is rather small, the BYU Cougars have been by far the better team in this matchup. KenPom ranks BYU as the 21st-best team in the country by net rating, 44 spots higher than the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Most of that gap comes down to how good the Cougars have been on offense. BYU is averaging 85.5 ppg and shooting 48.0% from the floor, and even the loss of third-leading scorer Richie Saunders hasn’t slowed down their attack.

That will be too much for West Virginia to handle, which is why I’m taking BYU to cover.

BYU vs West Virginia same-game parlay

The Cougars will score plenty of points against West Virginia, with the Mountaineers coming off a performance in which they allowed 91 to the Oklahoma State Cowboys.

AJ Dybantsa will lead the charge, as the nation’s leading scorer has put up 26+ points in six of his last seven games.

  • AJ Dybantsa Over 25.5 points

Our beyond the arc SGP: AJ All Day!

Dybantsa isn’t the only big scorer on the Cougars' roster, as BYU also boasts Robert Wright III.

I’m taking both of the leader scorers for BYU to hit their Over targets tonight, and will pair that with them to make at least two shots from deep each, something Dybantsa has done in three straight games and Wright has accomplished in four of his last six contests.

BYU vs West Virginia SGP

  • AJ Dybantsa Over 1.5 threes
  • Robert Wright III Over 17.5 points

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
