This could be an NBA Finals preview. That may sound absurd, but with both the San Antonio Spurs and the Boston Celtics sitting at No. 2 in their respective conferences, it is far from impossible.

My Spurs vs. Celtics predictions acknowledge that Boston has a scheduling disadvantage, but they also recognize the Celtics just might not care.

Read on for my NBA picks for Saturday, January 10.

Spurs vs Celtics prediction

Spurs vs Celtics best bet: Celtics moneyline (+100)

Perhaps the most surprising team in the NBA, the Boston Celtics, is too veteran to be underdogs only because they are on the second night of a back-to-back.

Boston has gone 5-1 against the spread in those moments this year, and with this game nearly a pick’em, betting on the Celtics ATS is just about the same as betting on their moneyline.

Should Boston have done a better job of thoroughly dispatching the Raptors last night? Absolutely.

But even in that 125-117 win — an ATS loss as 9.5-point favorites — only Jaylen Brown and Derrick White played more than 32 minutes.

The Celtics have diminished from recent years. Jayson Tatum’s Achilles tear and the roster turnover that followed it had an effect, but Boston is still deep and plays like it.

That mitigates some of the back-to-back worries, though they are still plenty baked into odds.

Spurs vs Celtics same-game parlay

Doubting Jaylen Brown may be the best bet here if not for the always true worry that a player may be an unexpected scratch on the second night of a back-to-back.

Brown has played in only three back-to-backs this season, but he has not scored more than 19 points in any of those three and shot a combined 16-of-38 (42.1%) from the field in them.

Our "from downtown" SGP: Castle Wemby'd!

San Antonio Spurs guard Stephon Castle has become an excellent playmaker this season, but his assists prop climbing to 6.5 regularly is a bit bold, particularly now that he has managed just 4 assists in both games since Victor Wembanyama’s return.

Douglas Farmer spends his days thinking about college football and his nights thinking about the NBA. His betting habits and coverage follow that same pattern. He covered Notre Dame football for various outlets from 2008 to 2024, most notably spending eight seasons as NBC Sports’ beat writer on the Irish. That was also when his gambling focus took off. Knowing there were veteran beat writers with three decades more experience than he had, Douglas found his niche by best recognizing Notre Dame’s standing in each year’s national landscape, a complex tapestry most easily understood and remembered via betting odds.

In 2021, that interest created a freelance opportunity with Covers, a role that eventually led to Douglas joining the company full-time in 2023. In the fall, Douglas will place five or six dozen bets each week, a disproportionate amount via BetRivers because the operator tends to have lines slightly different than the rest of the market. The same can be said of Circa Sports’ futures markets.

While Douglas is an avid NBA fan and covers the league throughout the year, the vast majority of his bets are on college football, because that is the biggest key to sports betting: Know what you do not know.
