The Oklahoma City Thunder will try to snap out of their recent funk when they host the Philadelphia 76ers on Sunday afternoon.

Oklahoma City should get back to its winning ways, but this spread is far too large, which is why I’m taking Philadelphia to cover in my 76ers vs. Thunder predictions.

Read on to get the full analysis of this afternoon’s matchup in my free NBA picks for Sunday, December 28.

76ers vs Thunder prediction

76ers vs Thunder best bet: 76ers +15.5 (-110)

Two weeks ago, the buzz around the NBA was over whether the Oklahoma City Thunder might break the record for regular-season wins. But losing four of six games has put a damper on that talk. Granted, three of those losses were to the San Antonio Spurs — but this represents a relative low point for Oklahoma City this season, nonetheless.

The Thunder are once again a big favorite at home, this time against the Philadelphia 76ers. Philadelphia is still trying to figure out how to integrate its big three, as only recently has it been able to play some games with Tyrese Maxey, Joel Embiid, and Paul George all healthy and on the court at once. That won’t even be the case on Sunday, as Embiid will be managing his knee after playing in the last two games.

It’s not clear if the Sixers have even been better with their ailing center in the lineup, however. They lost both games with Embiid in the lineup, and Philadelphia is 0-4 with all three stars in the game this season.

Regardless of who’s available, however, the 76ers haven’t been getting blown out by anyone this season. They haven’t lost a game by double digits in over a month and have only lost by more than 11 points once all season. With the Thunder working through a rough patch, I’m happy to take the boatload of points available and back Philadelphia to cover.

76ers vs Thunder same-game parlay

The Thunder have hit the Under in three of their last four games, while the Sixers have been below tonight’s total in three of their last four as well, making the Under a solid addition to our parlay tonight. Let’s round out the SGP with a bet on Maxey to score Over 26.5 points, as he’s hit this total in four of his last five games and should get even more usage with Embiid sitting this one out.

76ers vs Thunder SGP

  • 76ers +15.5
  • Under 225.5
  • Maxey Over 26.5 points

Since joining Covers in 2022, Ed has offered his sports betting analysis primarily on MLB, NFL, college football, and college basketball games, but is willing to take on any sport.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
