The second half of the NASCAR Cup Series season kicks off on Sunday evening with one of the crown jewels of the sport, the Coca-Cola 600.
All eyes will be on Kyle Larson as he makes his second attempt at "the double," namely running in the Indy 500 and the Coke 600 on the same day. Does that mean last year's winner and All-Star Race victor Christopher Bell will get overlooked?
Our free betting picks for NASCAR's longest night tell you what to expect at Charlotte Motor Speedway this Memorial Day weekend.

Coca-Cola 600 field
A full field of 40 will contest the Coca-Cola 600. Four-time Coke 600 winner Jimmie Johnson will make his 700th career start in the No. 84 car.
Also joining the 36 chartered drivers are Connor Zilisch in the No. 87, Josh Bilicki in the No. 66, and Derek Kraus in the No. 44.
Kyle Larson opened as the pre-qualifying favorite but at an inflated +550, likely due to the variable of his start in the Indy 500. Due to inclement weather, Larson got to Charlotte late then was unable to even record a start in the 2024 Coke 600.
Coca-Cola 600 expert picks and predictions
Odds listed below courtesy of DraftKings Sportsbook as of 5-24.
Coca-Cola 600 pre-qualifying favorites
Kyle Larson (+550)
Kyle Larson dominated the 2021 race and has four Top-10 finishes in his last six Charlotte oval starts. Larson finished ninth, first, 37th, fourth and first on intermediate tracks this season.
Denny Hamlin (+650)
Denny Hamlin has 19 Top-10 finishes in his last 23 Charlotte oval starts dating back to the 2010 season. He was runner-up in the 500-mile race in 2020, seventh in 2021, and won in 2022.
His last nine “600” finishes have been: eighth, fourth, fifth, third, 29th, seventh, first, 35th and fifth.
Tyler Reddick (+750)
Tyler Reddick had five Top-10 finishes in six Charlotte oval starts, including his last three being sixth, fifth, and fourth, respectively. On intermediate tracks this season, Reddick has finished 24th, eighth, fourth, 21st and 17th, respectively.
Christopher Bell (+750)
The Joe Gibbs Racing driver had finished 21st, 24th, fifth, and 24th, respectively, in his previous four Charlotte oval starts before his “600” win last year. On intermediate tracks this season, Bell finished 12th in Vegas, 29th in Homestead, third in Darlington, ninth at Texas, and second in Kansas.
Coca-Cola 600 sleepers
Ross Chastain (+1800)
Looked good in the 2022 race in leading 153 laps. However, Ross Chastain was only 15th in the end.
He finished 22nd in 2023 but qualified seventh and finished eighth last year after leading 10 laps. He finished fifth, 31st, seventh, second, and 18th on intermediate tracks this season.
Ty Gibbs (+1800)
Ty Gibbs led over 70 laps from the pole in last year’s sixth-place finish. Can he follow the list of big names, including Jeff Gordon, to score his maiden Cup Series victory in this race?
Josh Berry (+2800)
Josh Berry won in Las Vegas and finished 10th in this race last year. He just finished sixth at Kansas.
Coca-Cola 600 fades
Ryan Blaney (+800)
Ryan Blaney's 2023 win after leading 163 laps is his only Top-10 finish here since 2021.
Kyle Busch (+1200)
Kyle Busch has 11 Top-10 finishes in his last 14 Charlotte oval starts, including his last nine being first, third, third, fourth, 29th, third, second, sixth, and 15th, respectively. However, his intermediate track finishes this season are 33rd, 21st, 10th, 20th and 21st.
Chase Elliott (+1200)
Chase Elliott has finished 10th, 18th, fifth, 16th, and 15th on intermediate tracks this season. His last three “600” finishes are 33rd, 34th, and seventh.
Joey Logano (+1800)
Just one Top-5 finish in his last 12 Charlotte oval starts, including being 21st, 22nd, second, 13th, 17th, 20th, 21st, and 14th in his last eight Coke 600 tries. Joey Logano finished 15th, 14th, 13th, first, and ninth on intermediate tracks this season.
Coca-Cola 600 prop pick: William Byron Top-3 Finish
The hometown kid is due. William Byron has three career Charlotte poles, including 2023, and started second last year, but hasn’t won the “600” yet.
He was close in 2023 with a runner-up finish after leading 91 laps and third last year after leading 49 more laps. He finished fourth in 2021.
Bryon finished fourth, 12th, second, 13th, and 24th on intermediate tracks this season.
Pick: William Byron Top-3 Finish (+300 at DraftKings)

Charlotte Motor Speedway track analysis
Nothing has changed here since the last time out that witnessed 21 lead changes among 10 drivers in just 249 laps of racing. That occurred a year after the most lead changes (31) since 2014, and also the most cautions (18 in 2022 and 16 last year) since 2005.
By comparison, there were only four cautions in 2021, and eight and seven, respectively, in the pair of races in 2020.
That was a byproduct of this Next Gen car and how much it improved the racing on this track. I expect similar results this time around again with Las Vegas, Texas, and Kansas races delivering immediate results.
Coca-Cola 600 trends
- Seven of the last 11 race winners on the oval have won from eighth or worse.
- The eventual winner scored third-stage points in all seven years of the stage era (10th, first, first, seventh, first, 10th, third). Last year was rain-shortened so there wasn’t a third stage.
