Yankees vs Rangers Prediction, Picks & Odds — Tuesday, August 5

Nathan Eovaldi posted a 0.59 ERA in July, and the Yankees are struggling hard. With the Rangers favored on the moneyline, we're getting a great price on Eovaldi to pick up the win.

Four straight losses have the New York Yankees clinging to a playoff spot with a 1.5-game lead over the Texas Rangers. We expect that gap to tighten further tonight.

My Yankees vs Rangers predictions break it down here as I bring you my MLB picks when the teams meet Tuesday, August 5.

Yankees vs Rangers prediction

My Yankees vs Rangers best bet: Nathan Eovaldi to record the win (+160 at bet365)

Earned run averages rarely tell a story for a pitcher, but let's consider two facts:

Texas Rangers right-hander Nathan Eovaldi just finished off July with a 0.59 ERA over five starts. Meanwhile, the Rangers, as a team, have been playing better, winning two of their last three games.

The New York Yankees send Will Warren to the mound tonight. Warren has regressed (as his expected ERA indicated he was going to) and posted an ERA over 7.00 in his last three road starts. As for the Yankees, collectively, well, it's kind of hard to ignore their struggles.

I will gladly take Eovaldi to record a win at +160. I simply don’t believe there should be this much of a deviation between the moneyline price and his price to record a win.

Warren will have some decent success because of how much Texas chases pitches, but it pales in comparison to the advantages his counterpart has. Eovaldi’s elite ground ball and strikeout rates figure to be an issue for a team that struggles with both.

Yankees vs Rangers same-game parlay (SGP)

Nathan Eovaldi to record the win

Nathan Eovaldi Over 5.5 strikeouts

Will Warren Over 5.5 strikeouts

Although I expect the Rangers to have more success in the second matchup compared to the first, Warren striking out 10 Rangers earlier this year was no fluke. As mentioned, the metrics set up well for him, so I’ll take this very achievable strikeout number for him in our same-game parlay.

I’ll do the same for Eovaldi, who should do the same simply as a function of how deep he’ll pitch.
