The New York Yankees will look to bounce back tonight after dropping the series opener to the Chicago White Sox when the clubs meet at Yankee Stadium for the second of a three-game set.

New York enters play with six wins in its last nine contests while Chicago comes in on a four-game win streak, having allowed just five runs total over that span.

Will we see another strong pitching performance for Chicago or can New York’s bats snap their streak? I break it all down in my White Sox vs. Yankees MLB picks and predictions below.

Editor's note: This game has been postponed due to the air quality in New York.

White Sox vs Yankees predictions

The Chicago White Sox took the series opener 3-2 thanks to an excellent start from Lucas Giolito, who pitched a hitless, scoreless six innings before handing it off to the bullpen. Chicago has allowed two runs or fewer in each of its last four contests, though that trend might change with Lance Lynn taking the mound tonight.

Lynn has been the club’s weakest starter this season with a 6.55 ERA over 12 outings while delivering just four quality starts. The right-hander was rocked for eight hits, three home runs, and eight earned runs over just four innings in his last appearance on May 31 against the Angels – one of his worst starts of the season.

The New York Yankees, meanwhile, have slowed down offensively over the last week after a four-game run where they averaged 8.25 runs per game. New York is 2-3 over its last five outings while scoring just 3.40 runs per game through that span.

New York’s leading hitter, Aaron Judge, was just placed on the injured list but the Yankees should still have enough firepower to turn things around — especially against a struggling starter like Lynn.

White Sox vs Yankees moneyline analysis

The Yankees opened as the home favorite at -130 on the moneyline and I think the hosts are the smart pick in this one despite being without Judge, especially given how poor Lynn has been.

The White Sox starter has surrendered at least four earned runs in seven of 12 starts this season and 7+ runs in three of those outings.

New York still possesses some pop without Judge as Jake Bauers and Josh Donaldson have both been heating up at the plate. Bauers has three home runs and seven RBI in his last seven outings while Donaldson has three homers and four RBI over his last three appearances.

The Yankees have traditionally owned this matchup as well, going 11-5 in their last 16 games vs. the White Sox and 36-17 in the last 53 meetings at Yankee Stadium.

White Sox vs Yankees Over/Under analysis

Tonight’s total opened at 9 runs and I think the pitching matchup makes the Over the smart play.

We know that Lynn has the propensity to give up plenty of runs, but there’s also a question mark on the Yankees' mound as Randy Vasquez is expected to make his second career MLB start. The 24-year-old was fine in his first appearance in late May but it’s difficult to give him the benefit of the doubt this early on.

While New York’s bats have cooled off of late, the Yankees still own a Top-10 offense at 4.66 runs per game. Meanwhile, the Over is 5-3 in the Yankees’ last eight outings and 4-1 in Lynn’s last five starts.

Starting pitchers

Lance Lynn (4-6, 6.55 ERA): While Lynn was rocked for eight hits and eight earned runs last time out, he had gone on his best stretch of the season just prior, allowing three earned runs or fewer in three straight starts while pitching through the sixth inning in each of those games.

Randy Vasquez (0-1, 3.86 ERA): Vasquez made his major league debut on May 26 against the Padres, surrendering four hits and two earned runs over 4 2/3 innings while striking out six. The right-hander has spent most of his season with the Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders, posting a 5.13 ERA and a 1.63 WHIP over 10 outings.
