White Sox vs Mariners Prediction, Picks & Odds — Thursday, August 7

Cal Raleigh has slowed a bit but he gets a great matchup against White Sox SP Shane Smith today and we like the Big Dumper to clear his total bases prop.

Cal Raleigh has gone a little quiet of late, recording just two total bases over his last five games.

My White Sox vs. Mariners predictions expect MLB’s home run leader to bounce back with a big offensive performance today.

Let’s take a closer look with my MLB picks on Thursday, August 7.

White Sox vs Mariners prediction

White Sox vs Mariners best bet: Cal Raleigh Over 1.5 total bases (+125 at bet365)

Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh is one of the best power hitters in the sport, leading MLB with 42 home runs and averaging 2.2 bases per game.

Slowing him down is a tall order for anybody, let alone Chicago White Sox starter Shane Smith. He has earned a win in just three of 19 starts and owns an underwhelming 4.25 ERA on the season.

He has limited power fairly well, but that stems from his performance against right-handed bats. His ISO against lefties is more than twice as high while he’s allowed homers four times as frequently, giving up 1.6 per nine compared to 0.4 vs. righties.

The switch-hitting Raleigh will bat from the left side against Smith, setting him up favorably to have a good offensive showing.

Also working in Raleigh’s favor is that Smith is very dependent on his fastball, throwing it nearly 50% of the time against left-handed bats. Raleigh owns a .244 ISO and has hit 10 homers against fastballs thrown by righties.

White Sox vs Mariners same-game parlay (SGP)

Cal Raleigh Over 1.5 total bases

Josh Naylor Over 0.5 hits

Logan Gilbert 8+ strikeouts

Smith’s struggles at limiting power to lefties should also lead to problems against Josh Naylor, who owns a .293 average against right-handed arms this season and has piled up 10 total bases over the last two games.

Logan Gilbert has recorded at least seven Ks in six of his last seven starts, including 9+ strikeout performances against two of the top three teams (by record) in the Tigers and Brewers. The White Sox have been pesky of late, but Gilbert has the talent to overpower them.
