The Edmonton Elks and Ottawa Redblacks will wrap up Week 1 action when they meet in the nation's capital on Saturday night.

Both teams are looking to rebound from disappointing campaigns that saw them finish at the bottom of their respective divisions last season, and my Elks vs. Redblacks predictions are bullish on Edmonton getting off to a strong start as 2.5-point underdogs.

Find out more in my CFL picks for June 6.

My Elks vs Redblacks pick: Elks moneyline (+130)

The Edmonton Elks should hit the ground running in Cody Fajardo's second season under center.

Not only did Edmonton dramatically upgrade its offensive line, but it also reunited Fajardo with some familiar weapons from his Montreal days, signing receivers Austin Mack and Kaion Julien-Grant in free agency.

While Tre Ford went just 1-4 as a starter last season, Fajardo posted a 6-7 record and helped the Elks go 7-3 ATS over their final 10 games.

Meanwhile, the Ottawa Redblacks are turning to Jake Maier, who started only two games for Saskatchewan last season and posted a passer rating above 100.0 just once during his four years in Calgary.

With All-Star defensive end Malik Carney set to strengthen the pass rush, back Edmonton to win outright, and I'd play it to +110.

Elks vs Redblacks same-game parlay (SGP)

Edmonton has won two straight matchups against Ottawa, and the Elks' new-look offense will torch a Redblacks defense that ranked second-worst in the CFL in points allowed per game last season (29.8).

Although I expect Ottawa's offense to get off to a sloppy start in the first game of the Ryan Dinwiddie era, the Redblacks’ receiving corps is as deep as it gets, with Eugene Lewis, Justin Hardy, and former NFL receivers Khalil Pimpleton and Andy Isabella providing a threat for a pass-heavy game script if they are trailing.

Maier questions aside, I like the Redblacks to eventually do their part in helping send this game Over the total.
