It's been a painful year for the Pale Hose, as they ride a 12-game losing streak into Wrigley Field vs. the crosstown rival Cubs. Our MLB betting picks believe the North Siders will pick up an easy win tonight.

The Chicago White Sox will attempt to snap a 12-game losing streak as they visit their crosstown rivals the Chicago Cubs at Wrigley Field on Wednesday night, and I have free White Sox vs. Cubs predictions for this series finale.

The Cubs (30-31) overcame a five-run deficit to beat the White Sox (15-46) last night, and are favorites to complete a two-game sweep according to the latest MLB odds.

See why bettors should fade the White Sox once more in my free MLB picks for June 5.

My analysis

The Chicago White Sox are on pace to go down as one of the worst teams in MLB history. That’s not a statement I’d make lightly, but after their current 12-game losing streak, the White Sox are now behind the pace set by the 1962 New York Mets.

It’s not just that the White Sox are losing, but it’s how they’re doing it. This team is averaging just 2.92 runs per game, by far the worst mark in the league. They’re also the second-worst in terms of runs allowed (5.20 per game), ahead of only the Colorado Rockies. In a league where a differential of one run per game is usually reserved for notably good or bad teams, the White Sox are losing by an average of about 2.3 runs.

The White Sox have been particularly woeful on the road, going just 5-25 for the season away from home. Chicago will get a bit of a boost from Luis Robert Jr., who hit a homer in his return yesterday, but this is still a team short on talent with a poorly constructed roster that isn’t built to compete this season.

The Sox will have Erick Fedde on the mound, and he has been one of the only bright spots for the team so far this season, going 4-1 with a 3.12 ERA after returning from a stint in Korea last year.

But even Fedde has shown cracks as of late. He has allowed at least four runs in each of his last two road starts, and has put up a 4.67 ERA in his last three starts overall. With little else going right for Chicago, it seems that even Fedde is no longer something they can count on.

The White Sox will take their shots against Jameson Taillon, a 32-year-old righty who is enjoying a strong comeback year after struggling for the Chicago Cubs in 2023.

Taillon is 3-2 with a 2.84 ERA, and while he’s not putting away hitters as he has throughout his career – his 5.9 strikeouts per nine innings Is the lowest number of his career – he has kept the ball in the yard and has shown consistency, giving up three earned runs or less in each of his eight starts this year.

Once again, the White Sox are outmatched. Bettors would be wise to ride the trend and continue betting against them. I’m taking the Cubs not just to win, but to cover the run line tonight at home.

White Sox vs Cubs same-game parlay (SGP)

Cubs -1.5

Over 9

Cody Bellinger 1+ hits

I like the Cubs to score enough to cover the run line tonight. To create a same-game parlay from that game story, I’m throwing in a bet on the Over.

The total is a bit high, but both Fedde and Taillon can be hit, and the Cubs should do enough damage to cover most of the total. Along with that, I’m taking Cody Bellinger to pick up a hit along the way to round out our SGP.

His betting strategy focuses more on finding line value based on deviations from the market rather than traditional handicapping, primarily shopping between DraftKings, FanDuel, and Fanatics in his home state of Connecticut, though he’s not afraid to do deep game analysis to find profitable bets at any book.

Outside of gambling, Ed is an avid curler who competes in mixed doubles on the World Curling Tour and runs a popular curling YouTube channel, Chess on Ice. That experience has come in handy during the Olympics, when he has proven to be a successful curling bettor as well.

Ed's advice to new bettors is to always open multiple sportsbook accounts and check the odds at each before placing any bet. Successful sports betting is about consistently beating the closing line value, which requires finding spots where one book is offering odds far better than the rest of the market and jumping on those opportunities.
